Advantages: Absorbs well into skin, excellent bottle design, good price

Disadvantages: None

I am a face serum convert and use one twice a day as part of my skin care regime. Although I like the feel of serums, I awas never sure whether they were actually doing anything for my skin. However, one day I had one of those facial skin analysis scans. You know, where you put your face inside a machine, it takes a photo of your face and you're presented with probably the most shocking photo of your face that you'll ever see. These photos show the layers of skin beneath the outer layer so you can see the effects of sun damage undergone throughout your life.

The reason I mention the facial scan is that when discussing possible treatments for my skin, the skin analyst told me that I have quite thin skin and should avoid harsh treatments such as facial scrubs. She told me that the best treatments for my skin include regular use of serums as these apparently nourish the skin as well as providing more protection. It should always be used underneath a moisturiser.

After finishing off the last of my Boots No. 7 Protect & Perfect serum, I needed to restock. I've been happy with Protect & Perfect but when I arrived back in Boots, I noticed the price had risen by around £1.50. That's not a huge amount I suppose, but I thought I'd take a look at what else was on offer in the facial serum department.

I've tried a few different serums in the last couple of years, but one I hadn't seen before was this Anti-Ageing Wrinkle Reduction Daily Serum from Time Delay. I love the products from the Time Delay range and I have wondered whether their ingredients are similar to the No. 7 range since they are both Boots own brands.

This product is apparently proven to help reduce the appearance of pores and smooth lines and wrinkles in just 4 weeks. I contains antioxidants and a specialist skin-firming lipopeptide complex. It says it 'allows skin to help itself repair from within, boosting elasticity and reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Immediately skin feels softened and smoothed.'

This is all very convincing and along with its extremely low offer price, down from its usual price of £11.75 to £6.75 and the fact that I've used and liked many of their products over the years, I purchased a bottle. Additionally, the serum itself looks very similar to the Protect & Perfect being a pale creamy colour.

I've been using this serum for a couple of months now and one of the best points about this product is the bottle it's contained in. It's a small, 30ml plastic cylinder shaped bottle and very lightweight. It's clear so you can see how much serum is left. Because it's so narrow, you can easily hold it in one hand while pressing down on the dispenser button on top. What's even better is that each time you use it, the bottom of the dispenser squeezes the contents upwards and the entire bottom half of the bottle and contents move up. This way, every drop of the serum is squeezed out, so none is wasted. The entire bottle has lasted me two months of using twice a day.

On applying the serum, I find a couple of presses of the dispenser provides enough coverage for my entire face. The consistency is lightly creamy and thick enough to sit on my fingers without dripping off and has a very pleasant, mild fragrance. It glides smoothly over my skin and leaves a satiny sheen on my skin. After around 20 seconds it's absorbed completely, leaving a perfect base ready for applying moisturiser on top.

When comparing this serum to others I've tried, it's probably my favourite.
Although I feel somewhat influenced by the positive press given to the No. 7 Protect & Perfect, I cant say I've noticed any benefits of this over the Time Delay product. It's a lovely serum to use at a very good price. Although it claims it's wrinkle reducing, I honestly can't say that this has happened. But nearly all creams and serums have promises to that effect and I just take them all with a pinch of salt now!

Summary: A lovely serum at an affordable price

I must get a hold of some when my Clarins runs out. If I can break the addiction that is!
