Advantages: Very moisturising
Disadvantages: A little bit pricier than other brands
I love lipbalm/lipsalve, and find it an invaluable item to keep in my handbag. I don't wear makeup, and I don't spend a fortune on skincare products, but I am fussy about what I use - once I find something I like, I will stick with it. That's the case with this product.
I was given a "tester" pack of Burts Bees products for Christmas, most of them sample size but the Honey Lip Balm was full size. For years I've been using Nivea lip balms, and I'm often reluctant to try new ones as I've had some horrific experiences with some (Body Shop lip butters set my lips on fire...or that's what it feels like, it hurts so much). But I decided to be brave and give this one a go.
The packaging is your average lip balm in a stick packaging - a small tube with a lid that clicks on and a twister at the end to move the lip balm out of the tube. The tube is orange, with a label stating the name and with some pictures of bees on it.
I'm really not sure what it smells of, I wish I could put my finger on it. Obviously it contains honey, but despite not being a fan of eating honey I'm sure it's not honey that it smells of. It has a tang of something almost Vics ish about it, that clear type of decongestant smell, and it's not at all unappealing. Oh dear I hope I'm not putting you off...
The lip balm itself has a rather slippery texture to it, not creamy like some others. This had me concerned as I thought it might leave a residue which I have experienced in the past. However it felt very nice and like it would be effective on application so I stopped worrying.
Having used this regularly (I'd say 5 days a week, probably not quite every day) for over 5 months now, I can safely say that I like it. It does moisturise my lips, it doesn't cause me pain, I don't feel the need to apply more once I already have, and it doesn't leave a residue. And on top of all that, I've still got 3/4 of the tube left.
It sells for £3.42 on myburtsbees.co.uk, which is more than some of the standard brands you might find in Boots, but it is really good and it seems to be very long lasting. Sometimes the website has an offer where if you spend a certain amount on other products, you get a free lip balm.
Summary: A really good product that is worth the money
