Advantages: Works well, tastes lovely

Disadvantages: A bit more expensive than vaseline

As I have mentioned in previous reviews, one of my favourite brands of beauty products is Burt's Bees. This American brand is near the top of my list due to their ethics (they don't experiment on animals and they have a strong sustainability policy) and their use of natural ingredients, as well as the quality of their products. Every product I have used from them has been very effective, and this lip balm is no exception.

Burt's Bees Honey Lip Balm comes in a honey-coloured tube decorated with a honeycomb design and drawings of two bees, which is Burt's Bees logo. The tube is cute and attractive without being too girly. Plus it is made from 50% post-industrial recycled plastic.

To apply the lip balm, you simply pull the cap off the tube, twist the bottom of the tube until a bit of the balm appears above the lip of the tube, and rub this on your lips the way you would a lipstick. The lip balm goes on evenly and provides a nice, fairly thick barrier to protect your lips from the cold. It lasts quite well although like with all lip balms I do find I have to reapply it several times a day.

The honey the lip balm contains soothes chapped lips nicely and also provides a lovely sweet taste to the lip balm - it's not so strong that you want to lick it all off but it is pleasant and certainly noticeable.

One thing I like about the application of this lip balm is that it always goes on smoothly. Some lip balms change texture quite dramatically due to the temperature, become almost runny in hot weather and too solid to go on properly in winter. This lip balm stays consistent somehow so I can use it every season of the year. I find I use it most in winter, though, as it soothes the dry, chapped lips I get then.

I use this alternating with another lip balm that contains aloe vera that I got from the health food shop. With the aloe vera lip balm, if the skin around my eyes is dry and itchy I can apply it directly on my skin and it's very soothing. I don't do this with this honey lip balm, however, as the honey would be too sticky to use on the skin and also it contains rosemary oil which is too strong to be used around the eye area.

This lip balm costs a little less than £3 at Boots. However I got mine for free from Bath and Unwind when ordering another Burt's Bees product - they let you select a free gift with each order.

Summary: A great product that's enjoyable to use
