Advantages: Imagine you're at one of their spa's...

Disadvantages: Too expensive at RRP of £6.50

A few days ago I found myself in the skincare aisle at Sainsbury's, surveying the face washes as my current one was almost finished. Usually with any skincare, I stick with what I know works but this time I couldn't help noticing that a lot of the ranges in this section were marked as 25% off so, naturally, I took a closer look. One of the ranges beckoning me was the Champneys Collection, which I'm only familiar with as having health spa's.

They had three or four products on display at the time, but the one that interested me was the foamy face wash (Radiance boosting, no less). Normally selling at £6.50, it was on offer at £4.87 on my visit, so I decided to give it a try as it was much the same price as my usual face wash.

~ The Product ~

The Radiance boosting foamy face wash describes itself as being an oat derived cleanser, which contains aloe vera and conditioning wheat protein, together with essential oils of eucalyptus, rosemary and peppermint. Having said that, when you read the ingredients small print, you'll find a list 10 lines long as to why you wouldn't want to swallow any of this. That seems to be par for the course with most skin care products unfortunately (Lush aside of course). Nevertheless, I have to say that when you flip open the lip the smell that greets you is really nice. I would say that it's mostly eucalyptus, though having a slight cold at present means I can't properly go into any indepth analysis, suffice to say that if there are any heady 'top notes' or 'under notes', then I've missed them. The face wash is a slightly creamy colour and of a thicker consistency than other washes I've previously bought. Having massaged it onto my face the first time, I rinsed off not quite sure what to expect. Did it boost my facial radiance as stated? On close inspection, not any more so than usual, I'm afraid. I think the massaging is going to help boost the circulation in your face anyway, isn't it? Once I've used it, I find that it does make my face feel nice and clean and reduce the natural oiliness for some time.

~ The Packaging ~

The face wash comes in a 100 ml see-through tube with a flip cap opening at the bottom which enables it to stand up.

I'd like to say that this was especially tastefully packaged given that it's obviously sold as a premium brand, however it's pretty much in keeping with all the other face washes you'll see on the shelves.

Oh, and it's been tried and tested by Champneys Therapists themselves no less.

~ Overall ~

Having used it nearly a dozen times now, I can say that I am pleased I bought it. This is only the first product I've bought from the Champney Collection range and at the reduced price of £4.87 it's only slightly more expensive than it's main competitors on the market. I would certainly look to get this again at that price. Having said that, I would balk at spending the rrp of £6.50 for it, especially considering it is only 100ml and not even 150ml like most standard face washes.

Summary: Bringing some Champneys glitz to a Sainbury's shelf near you.
