Advantages: Works quickly and consistently

Disadvantages: None

Welcome to part 1 of my three-part guide to fighting spots. First up is Clearasil Treatment Cream.

Still being young, in the past couple of years I’ve had my fair share of problems with spots, but at the moment I am using a daily routine including three products that has greatly reduced and almost completely eliminated my spots. All three of the products I use will be described in upcoming opinions in this series of 3, and none of them seem to be very successful without the other two. There will be alternative methods of treating spots – probably better ones than this, but this is what works for me. I use the following three products on a daily basis:

> Clearasil Treatment Cream (fights existing spots)
> Clearasil Complete (prevents future spots)
> Avon Clearskin Astringent Cleanser (reduces and prevents greasy skin)

For today, however, I am sticking to writing about Clearasil Treatment Cream. The version I use is the regular version and it says it is colourless, however I can’t help but notice the yellow tint of the cream. However, that is not important, it is what the product does that counts.

Clearasil Treatment Cream comes in a small tube (see picture). The amount given on the tube is not a measure of volume, but rather a measure of weight, 20 grams. The cream is, and I quote the tube, “Clinically proven to be effective against spots”. The idea of this particular product is to apply it to areas where you have existing blemishes (especially the very noticeable ones), and the cream will work to reduce and remove the spots. Do not expect instant results, but if you use the product daily and also use the two other products mentioned above (or similar versions), the spots may well disappear within a couple of days. However, you must continue to use the three products after you have gotten temporarily rid of spots, or else they will come back. I find this product very effective if I have a parti
cular noticeable spot, as after just a couple of days the breakout will usually have partially or often completely disappeared.

The directions for use, as written on the tube, are as follows:

> Cleanse your face thoroughly
> Using fingertips, apply Clearasil Regular Treatment Cream to the areas where you have spots
> Massage lightly into the skin
> Wash hands after use
> For best results use daily – morning and night

I try to follow these guidelines but often only use the product once a day, however I still get very effective results, and have found Clearasil Treatment Cream to be extremely reliable. As with most heath/beauty products, there are issues for caution involving irritation, and I will once again quote the tube as it contains some important information for safety.

“For external use only. If skin becomes inflamed, discontinue application and consult a doctor. Do not apply to mouth or around the eyes. Active ingredients may discolour jewellery. Keep medicines out of reach of children. If symptoms persist consult your doctor.”

All of these are very valid points, however none have applied to me. I do as the tube says; I avoid applying near the eyes or to the mouth, and I have had no problems with irritation. As we all know it is indeed important to keep medicines away from children, as they can be potentially very dangerous.

The fact that all of this important information is included on the tube is another plus point of Clearasil treatment Cream, as he product seems to cover every aspect of not only skin care but also general safety.

For those who may be interested, here are the ingredients of Clearasil Treatment Cream:

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS:
Triclosan 0.1% w/w
Precipitated Sulphur B.P. 8% w/w

OTHER INGREDIENTS:
Bentonite
Carbopol 940
Triethanolamine
Polyethene glycol
Propylene glycol
Denatured alcohol

en
Propylparaben
Perfume
Glyceryl monostearate
Dibutyl adipate
Water

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, I cannot think of any disadvantages of Clearasil Treatment Cream, other than the fact that for best results you must use other products as well, but that problem applies with every skin care product and cannot be helped. But this product has been clinically proven, and has now been “DANically proven” (sorry) to be effective at removing existing spots, so it performs its purpose with quick, consistent and effective results. I highly recommend using the product, but you must also use other products for best results against spots – for more information see my other two opinions in this series, which will be posted in the next couple of days.
