Advantages: helps prevent spots and blackheads, makes skin feel really clean
Disadvantages: THE INCREDIBLY STRONG SMELL ! ! !
Fortunately I rarely seem to get spots of the large, red beacon variety, although every few months I will get a reandom breakout! I am incredibly lazy and cant be bothered with all the bottles of stuff you can use for spots as they take to long to apply and use! A couple of years ago I discovered these Clearasil double action pads and decided to give them a try as they seemed pretty effortless to use! It is worth nothing that they have since slightly changed the name and pot design a little but the ingredients and product are still the same!
The pads come in a little round tub with a blue screw on lid. Inside the tub is a stack of 65 thin circular pads, which have lots of little square shapes on them (to help them remove the dirt from your face). The first time you open the tub there is a plastic seal across the top of the pot, which keeps the pads fresh while they have been on a shop shelf and also lets you know that no one has tampered with them.
A tub of 65 pads costs just under £4 so they aren't cheap but there is plenty of lotion on each pad so you only need one pad to clean your entire face. The pot claims that the pads help fight spots and removes and helps blackheads with their clinically proven formula. The pads help keep your pores clear whilst fighting bacteria and removing dirt and grease.
If you are too close when you open the tub your eyes will water as the smell of the lotion is VERY strong! I just stuck my nose in the top of the pot to try and give an accurate description of the smell but I am now temporarily blind as my eyes are streaming and my nasal passages are burning!! The smell isn't unpleasant as it is a 'clean' smell (a bit like disinfectant actually!) it is just incredibly over powering! When using the pad you really don't want to get it anywhere near your eyes or they will sting like mad! (trust me!).
Also a slight disadvantage is that your face will smell of the lotion for a little while after use as it carries on working on your face after you have used a pad! You will be able to smell it for a while and so will anyone who gets intimately close to your face!
Using the pads is really easy, take a pad out of the pot, wipe it in circular motions on your face and voila your face is cleansed! One thing that impressed me with these pads is that they don't aggravate my skin! I have incredibly sensitive skin and normally pretty much anything other than water makes my skin really sore and poorly! When I use these wipes there is a tingling feeling but I think that is just the lotion getting into your pores and cleaning them out! The pads don't claim to be for sensitive skin and do have a warning to discontinue use if they don't suit you skin although I have had no problems with them.
Immediately after use your skin feels a little bit sticky as the lotion soaks in but this only lasts for a few seconds. After use my skin feels really clean, like incredibly clean! Which is a good thing as it feels like the lotion is really working! Once you have finished with the pad you can see the dirt on it from your face which is a good indication that you have used it properly! (although a little bit gross!) Obviously the pads cannot be reused to just throw them in the bin one used.
I have found that if I start using the pads when I see the first sign of a spot then they really do help prevent spots although more often than not I forget to use them until I have got some nasty spots and by then they don't seem to have much of an effect. Maybe it would be better if I used them daily! In terms of fighting blackheads they work relatively well, they do help prevent them and after regular use begin to remove stubborn blackheads although it isn't an instant solution! So all in all these do seem to be good at preventing spots although in my experience they don't seem to have much of an effect on spots which are already there!
In my opinion these are definitely worth using as they are very easy to use and leave your skin feeling really clean and smooth and do help prevent spots and blackheads. They are fairly expensive but a pot of 65 wipes does tend to last a long time, even I you use the pads twice a day as recommended. The only real disadvantage is the over powering smell which can sting like crazy if you stick your nose too near the pot or the pads too near your eyes!
I would recommend this product if you are lazy like me and don't have time for creams and lotions in a bottle etc! Also they are pretty good at preventing spots so its worth giving them a try and seeing if they work for you!
Summary: Minimal hassle spot prevention
