Advantages: Quite reasonably priced, applys well, moisturises.

Disadvantages: Doesn't give the best tan.

Now the weather is getting a bit warmer I’ve made a commitment to take fake tanning seriously. No longer will I apply a bit to my arms and neck the night before I go out and then not bother for the rest of the week. Instead I’ve pledged to keep up the effort and I’m trying to get into a routine of fake tanning every other day or so to keep up a nice healthy glow. My intentions were good but already I feel I’ve slipped up slightly and fallen back into my old dark ways of only tanning the areas that are on view to the rest of the world – well there’s no point in wasting good old fake tan just for me to see is there!

Last year I tended to just use body products on my face but this year I’ve realised that when you’re doing that every other day it tends to cause greasy skin and cause spots – not attractive in the slightest! On a recent excursion to Boots I invested in Dove Summer Glow Daily Face Moisturiser for medium to dark skin. They also do one for light to medium skin but in the past I’ve found these products never really do much for my skin. I believe the product is normally priced at £5.99 but there was a third off when I bought it.

Packaging

The cream comes in a light, shiny cream oval shaped bottle which is about 3-4 inches in height with a 2 inch lid on the top. The cream is dispensed through a pump action which I really like, with tubes I often find I squeeze too much product out and I detest screw tops as I’m forever struggling to put the top back on while I have cream over my hands. The hole where the cream is dispensed is also really small, and the pump actions are quite gentle which means that there’s no risk of getting too much product out.

Product

The cream itself it white in colour which I normally don’t like as I feel coloured creams give some indication of the colour that your skin will turn. When the cream is white I often feel like I’m applying it blindfolded, unsure of the results! There is a slight smell to the cream, but a really pleasant one at that. Not quite perfumed and not as strong as other Dove creams, but quite sweet smelling and almost summery in a sense! It’s quite thin in consistency which means it spreads out and is absorbed really easily. I find that merely one pump will dispense enough to cover my face and that it is absorbed within a minute or so.

Application

As previously mentioned it absorbs really well and you don’t need much cream at all to cover your face I’ve found. The best way to apply is as directed with your fingertips rather than with the palm of your hand. You should also avoid your brows depending on the lightness of them as it may well dye them with continued usage and of course remember to blend in carefully around the hair line so you don’t end up with an obvious tan line!

Results

I’ve been using this product daily for 2 weeks now and in that time I’ve noticed a light tanned glow appearing on my face gradually. I don’t doubt that if you stopped using this for a day or 2 the colour would fade immensely and I often find after I wash my face the colour does fade a little, although this might have something to do with removing my make up. The cream hasn’t caused my skin to be greasy at all and hasn’t given me any spots which is a big bonus, it’s also been dermatologically tested so should agree with most skin types.

Conclusion

I personally quite like the Dove Summer Glow Daily Face moisturiser and will certainly continue to use the rest of the bottle. It contains 50ml and I imagine the bottle will last me about 2-3 months with daily usage. As to whether or not I’d buy this product again I’m not sure, I think I probably would but I have been tempted to use St Tropez on my face as well just to deepen the colour a little as I don’t feel it’s the most effective face tan.

However it should be noted that this isn’t essentially a fake tan, it simply contains hints of self tanning agents so if you are looking for an instant and deep tan then it wouldn’t be a product for you. I certainly wouldn’t recommend buying the light to medium skin as I’d be very surprised if this had any effect on the skin at all.

I think it's quite similar really to the Johnson's Holiday Skin face lotion that they produced last year. I tried that out and can say that I've found the Dove counterpart less greasy. I'm still not completly convinced by this product but fear not, I shall continue on my hunt and report back!

n.b. Please note that my bottle actually displays “Summer Glow” rather than “Energy Glow” as seen in the picture but Boots assured me they were the same thing.

Thanks for reading!

Summary: A face cream from Dove that offers a hint of self tanning.

Sounds good and at least it has a pleasant smell, not like some others which stink! xx

I quite like this too, but I find the Avon-skin-so-soft better.
