Advantages: Good value, very rich and thick, especially formulated for very dry skin, unisex

Disadvantages: Maybe too rich for some skin types.

My Purchase.

I bought a 150ml pot of Dove Rich Moisturising Cream, what seems like a lifetime ago. However, I guess it was simply quite a while ago. My pot of cream does have a red sticker proudly adorning the lid which states that this product was new, and this is one of the reasons for my purchase. At the time I was looking for a good all round day cream and this seemed as if it would fit the bill. I have always found that Dove products are nice and creamy and, on the whole, they live up to their advertising claims.

Dove.

The Dove brand has been around far longer than is often realised. In 1957 the Dove brand was launched with its creamy, non skin drying, face bar which was much kinder to skin, especially on the face, than a traditional bar of soap.

Dove is made by the world famous Unilever company which makes goods as diverse as Iced Tea, Skin Creams, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and much more. The Dove range of products has certainly grown over the years. However Dove's commitment to producing quality, affordable skin products remains the same.

Their recent range of goods has included a Pro-Age collection of products that are designed with the more mature skin in mind. Currently they are promoting a Campaign for Real Beauty which aims to help people see that real beauty comes in all shapes and sizes not just skinny sized zero females. Through this campaign Dove hope that we will all see how precious we are as individuals, accept ourselves and treat our skin with the love and respect it deserves.

Dove Rich Moisturising Crème claims.

This is what the advertising bumf on the Internet claims:-

At Dove we believe the key to healthy, beautiful skin is everyday moisturisation.
With ¼ moisturising cream at the heart of the Dove product range, maintaining and flaunting your natural beauty is simple. Replacing the moisture that your skin loses every day works wonders to give you a healthy, gorgeous glow day in, day out.

Every day moisturisation brings beautiful results:

- Radiant Skin
- Softer, smoother skin
- A reduced appearance of wrinkles
- Healthier skin
- And ultimately, happy skin!

My opinion.

The pot is similar to the traditional Nivea type pot of cream. Made of light plastic it is not heavy but the round, flattish pot is a little large for carrying in a handbag.

To my mind the cream has little discernible smell. It simply smells like many other fairly fragrance free, rich, skin creams.

This cream has a very thick consistency which feels heavy and cold on the skin when first applied.

It almost feels as if it is offering a waterproof protective coat to your skin, similar to that of some sun creams, but I guess it is not.

Despite the thickness of the cream it is absorbed quite well. You can still feel the product on your skin but not in a sticky or unpleasant way. It certainly leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft.

Uses.

I am not sure if this product is designed as a general all over body cream or more with the facial skin in mind. I have used it on my face but do not really like to. It is just a little too heavy for my face.

However if you are suffering from dry facial skin, even if just in patches, this could be the cream for you. It feels as if it offers some protection from the drying winds and cold weather which has to be good. The makers claim that it is especially suitable for very dry skin areas and I would agree with that.

For me the best use of Dove Rich Moisturising Crème is:-

Dry, rough elbows and knees. It is perfect for treating such areas and soon softens the damaged skin.

The hard skin on feet especially ,after a home pedicure. Blather your feet in a generous amount of this cream and don a pair of bed socks, before retiring for the night ,and your feet will feel wonderful in the morning.

My hands when they are feeling a little dried out. This time you could apply to your hands at bedtime and wear a thin pair of thin gloves for bed that night. This would not take that much effort and the results would be well worth it.

My husband's dry skin patches, from working in extremely cold temperatures, as it is not a heavily fragranced cream. I am afraid he is not a new man and will not use anything that may smell even slightly feminine.

I have also found that it has a nice cooling feeling if applied to my skin after exposure to the sun. However it is a little too thick to be a good after sun cream if your skin has been overly exposed.

Overall.

It all comes down to personal choice. However this Dove Rich Moisturising Crème will have something for all, no matter what age, sex, type of skin or which problem area you are hoping to treat.

Priced at around a couple of pounds it is good value, lasts a long time, could be used on all the family and is cheap enough to do so,
