Advantages: Smells good, cheap and moisturises
Disadvantages: takes ages to penetrate, very sticky and oily texture .
Using a moisturiser every day is a part of my daily regime and keeping my skin hydrated and well moisturised, it is necessary for me especially in scorching hot summers and freezing cold winters. I at all times I start my pampering by using my good quality bath foam or shower gel/cream followed by a body butter/cream to maximise my skin elasticity, nourished and soften it so it won't get dried up or cracked!
There is nothing worse than a dry, rough and dull skin and I don't mean only facial skin because sadly most people look after their body and from their neck and upwards they completely take no notice of it .
We have almost all experienced dry skin at some point in our life but there are some people who are set to have more dry skin than others, especially if we don't look after it. Our skin mirrors our inner self so don't ignore it; look after your body's skin exactly like your facial skin . . . they both are precious and echo how young you are!
You don't have to use expensive and posh products to moisturise your skin; any reasonably priced and good quality cream will do. One of these highly recommended creams is Dove Rich moisturising cream. I like it for many reasons and I think you will like it too, but it does have a few drawbacks too.
Usually I have 'normal' skin but it changes during the winter period because we used a heating system that dried out my skin at work and likewise at home; as well as we have very dry windy weather here in Spain. All these factors have made my skin extra dry and sometimes it has made my knees and elbows rough . . . which can be uncomfortable and itchy (which I really abhor).
In order to keep my skin hydrated and prevent it from drying out, I will use body butter or a moisturiser. However, to be honest with you, I used it quite a lot: in fact, several times a day.
For using this often, you do not want to use an expensive luxury brand. Dove Rich moisturising crème has it all . . . it can be reasonably cheap and yet show quality as well.
Before you use it you should know . . . Under what category should Dove Rich
~~~Moisturising Cream be classified?~~~
It can't be a facial cream because it's not an anti wrinkle cream or day/night cream, it doesn't have that special ingredient also there is no SPF in the mixture so it can be classified as a body care product (moisturiser)
~~~The pot~~~
Very basic plastic round pot, the cover is mainly white with a dark blue (navy) line around it. Nothing much going on at the top . . . only a Dove word and a golden dove logo underneath it and one phrase: . . . 'Dove Rich moisturising crème'. Also it has a red sticker with NEW in it . . . although I don't find it new (Nivea had exactly the same version years ago). The other half of the pot (the bottom half) is dark blue with a sticker mentioning a bit about the product, the ingredients, weight, the life expectancy of the cream and the company address.
~~~Opening the lid . . . to discover . . . ~~~
The cream was saved and covered with a silvery foil I liked the idea because the cream stayed as it is (not dried out or played with and tried by some people).
~~~I peeled off the foil to find out . . . The colour, thickness, smell and texture~~~
An extremely thick brilliant white paint . . . (Oops, I mean cream). It was very heavy and exceedingly dense that I inverted the pot upside down and it still not moving a bit! I thought . . . yes, it's dense so it has many benefits which I'm going to talk about next. This snow white mixture has the unique smell that we always find in Dove products . . . so I wasn't surprised by a new smell because it can be found even in shampoos. It smells artificial but pleasantly light and nice, reminding me of baby powder or baby lotion: . . .
it's a clean and fresh fragrance so you can imagine how light and delicate that smell can be. As for texture, it is velvety soft and smooth, no lumps or bumps; it looks very shiny and oily so I expect a lot of rubbing will be going on! It may look thick and dense but if you know how to apply . . . you will find it as light as a feather!
~~~First and before I start I want to clear some points. . .~~~
~~~Where to use?~~~
It is a moisturising cream BUT I don't recommend it to be used on the face or eyes area, simply because it doesn't contain any SPF whatsoever; you can't just apply it to your face and go out or your skin will be fried with the dove's oil lol. Another reason is that it's very greasy; therefore your face will be sticky and "slippery" (if that's the word) and no makeup or foundation will stay still at its place! Applying it to the eye area will make it worse . . . puffy and soggy eyes because all the oil will penetrate to the delicate area of the eyes! So here is my advice to you: . . . only use it on your body (not all of your body though) . . . paying extra attention to the driest places like knees, elbows and hands. You can take my advice it or leave it, it's up to you!
~~~Is it suitable for all kind of skin?~~~
It is recommended by Dove to be used on a very dry skin but from my experience it can be used on normal-dry skin especially in winter as we all end up with a dry skin; but try to never use it on an oily, blemished, prone-to-spots skin or 'combination' skin. Because it doesn't contain any active anti-wrinkle ingredients it can be used on a baby's skin but very little and only on dry areas like cheeks and shoulders (in new born babies mostly and that what I have done with my niece)
~~~Don't use it if . . .~~~
* You have an oily skin, it will make skin oilier.
* If you have a reaction to any of the ingredients.
* It's not fragrance free so if you or your skin has a sensitivity to perfumes or fragrances don't use it.
~~~Back to basics . . . ~~~
Applying it to my skin
Obviously, because it's very thick and greasy, I'm more likely to use less as I don't want to end up with a slimy fish-like skin. The best way is to only use the tips my fingers and gently wipe a very thin layer of the cream. I didn't feel that I'm touching a cream, the feeling was exactly like as if I'm playing with . . . butter!
Anyhow . . . a little cream covers a large area. To be frank, I didn't like the oily texture, so I put it only on my hands, arms, elbows and knees.
~~~The smell on my body~~~
As I mentioned before . . . I like the smell; it is very delicate and babyish and when applied remained the same (some creams and body-butters change smell on blending with the skin); still gorgeous and very subtle.
~~~The effect~~~
It was designed for very dry skin so it took ages for it to be blended into my skin; you need to be patient for a few minutes to get the best results.
~~~As a result . . . Good points ~~~
* It was very moisturising and my skin was hydrated instantly and velvety soft.
* My skin was left with a nice delicate smell
* It was very rich so I didn't use much and my skin was very well covered.
* Glowing and light reflecting shiny, silky soft skin.
~~~Bad points . . . there are some major points that should be taken into consideration: ~~~
* Very oily . . . it's like spreading butter instead of cream; this can be very irritating in some areas like thighs and legs which I have tried before and ended up walking like a Zombie (to keep my legs from rubbing together!)
* Extremely sticky and takes ages to be absorbed by the skin. So make sure to rub and massage it in very well before going to bed or wearing your clothes because it may stain and leave oily spots.
* Don't go out straight after putting the cream, your skin may burn more easily.
~~~After a little while . . . ~~~
It needs time to completely penetrate into the skin but once it does the results are good. I'm not saying it was astonishing but it was satisfying; after all, you are not paying a fortune for this product and it does moisturise well.
My skin smelled gorgeous and was glowing and shiny; unfortunately it was still sticky . . . I can virtually stick a tissue on my hand and stayed on its place! So you may be embarrassed if you shake hands with people . . . in case they think that you didn't wash your hands after eating your chips (lol)!
I prefer to apply it after a hot shower or a bath, it melts easily and penetrates faster when the pores are open . . . then I wait for a few minutes before doing any task . . . mainly because my hands will be very slippery.
~~~Prices and availability~~~
You can find it in most beauty shops, supermarkets, Boots and Wilkinsons. It's also available worldwide. As for the price, the 150ml pot is usually priced at £1.99; currently, it is available for £1.29 in Wilkinsons as a special promotion. Watch out for BOGOF in some shops.
~~~As a conclusion ~~~
I liked that cream but it is not the greatest. It's cheap, moisturises and nourishes the skin temporarily. It has been specifically formulated to treat very dry skin, so I advise you to NOT use it on your whole body, or you will end up with buttery, itchy skin. Only use it as a winter treatment on the dry areas only; for best results use small quantities and massage very well.
It does leave a nice light delicate fragrance but it is very heavy in texture so use in moderation.
