BACKGROUND

Now owned by Unilever, the Dove brand was originally introduced by a Dutch company called De Duif (literally The Dove) in 1955, launched in the US in 1957, but not launched in the UK until just 12 years ago. Dove are known for promoting natural beauty. All their products have a neutral pH (between 6.5 and 7.5). In 1979 a Pennsylvanian dermatologist proved Dove dried and irritated the skin much less than other soaps. This lead to an agressive advertising campaign and Dove taking 24% of the US market in 2003. In 2006 Dove began the 'Self Esteem Fund' in order to 'educate and inspire girls on a wider definition of beauty'. I'm sure we've all seen the adverts that feature 'real women' rather than the norml stick thin models. There have also been a few short films (though these are largely only available on the internet) including 'Daughters' which was also aired during the Super Bowl XL and 'Evolution' which won two awards at the Cannes Lions International Advertsing Festival.

THE PRODUCTS

Dove produces soap bars, body wash, lotions, hair products and deodorants in six collections; Go Fresh, Original, silk, Summer Glow, Supreme and Pro*Age. This particular cream is from the Original collection.

INGREDIENTS

Aqua, Petrolatum, Paraffinum Liquidum, Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Glycol Stearate, Triethanolamine, Glyceryl Stearate, Cera Microcristallina, Cetyk Alcohol, Stearamide AMP, Magnesium Aluminium Silicate, Carbomer, Disodium EDTA, Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Prorpylparaben, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Dilauryl Thiodopropionate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Butylphenyl Methlpropional, Citronellol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, limonene, Linalool, CI 77891.

But if you're anything like me everything past Glycerin (Glycerin! ... isn't that used in explosives?) means very little.

THE LOOK

Dove Rich Moisturising cream comes in two sizes; 30ml and 150ml. I normally buy the smaller one which comes in a squat light blue tub with a screw top lid. The cream itself is white and thick and has a feint synthetic floral smell similar to othe moisturisers.

THE COST

A small tub cost around the £3 pound mark, but the cream spread well and so lasts for ages.

THE EFFECT

The effect is exactly what you need. It spreads well and absorbs quickly so your skin doesn't feel greasy. The scent lasts for a long time, but isn't so overpowering it'll mask your favourite perfum. And most importantly; long after application your skin feels soft and smooth to the touch - Perfect!!!!!

Summary: It is everything it claim's to be
