Advantages: Reduces large spots and dries out small ones..

Disadvantages: On larger spots makes a mess and goes a little crusty..

Now I know for the majority of us, at one point of another in our lives we have been plagued by those little blighters we call spots - and usually no matter how hard you try they won't disappear! I cannot remember in the past there being so many spot treatments around as there are now, I'm sure they are all just a similar product in a different tube! However (I include myself in this) some go from product to product trying to find that one tube of goodness that gives us a nice clear face.. However I have yet to find the right tube, and I'm fast running out of things to try! So I saw this in Boots reduced and thought I'd give it a go..

~*~ What Is Freederm? ~*~

Freederm is for the treatment of spots, to be make it simple.. It says its clinically proven, reduces redness and inflammation.. So all in all you would assume that it would be a good treatment for, mild acne and those blighters that pop up when you least want them!? Well the way it has been advertised you would think that this the miracle cure we have all been looking for - with an ingredient that does sound suspiciously like nicotine I was slightly dubious..

Freederm also make a face wash and lotion, the face wash I have tried but that is for another review!

~*~ Spotting Freederm ~*~

Well to be honest they are not hard to spot, if you see a white box with blue writing on the shelf.. That's pretty much it! There is the blue writing of 'Freederm' and a little pink wording of gel, there is the ingredients on the bottom of the box next to the barcode, and the directions for use on the back of the pack, however there are more detailed instructions and situations in which you cannot use the product on a leaflet folded up inside the pack. Trust me you are not going to forget how they recommend you use it, because it is everywhere, on the box, on the tube and in the leaflet!

~*~ So How Do You Use It? ~*~

Well as it says on the box, wash your face as normal and apply to affected areas - twice a day is suggested. However it is totally up to you when you apply your gel as it is not part of a step by step routine if you only have the gel. It does say only apply in a thin layer but, as always it is up to you, if you have a big one, sometimes it is the best idea to bung on a bit more than usual - even though it says not to.. Do what you want it's your face after all!

~*~ My opinion ~*~

Well having tried the face wash before and not got on well with it, I felt like I should give this a fair go as it was just applied to the spot not to the whole face to hurt my skin like the face wash did! Applying the gel liberally to my spots, I tried it on a few of the smaller ones first, they did sting a little bit, but I've always been told that's because it's working. I tried the gel over night for the first time, to save me sitting around going to the mirror every few minutes to see it if it had made any difference, and over night I am happy to say that the few minor spots had all but gone. However though they had become quite dry over night leaving me with a real need to exfoliate to get rid of the dead dry skin where the spots had been..

So given the little ones had disappeared quite happily the night before, this time I chose one of the larger spots on my face. Yep, at 19 I am still plagued with them and will try anything to give me clearer skin! Anyway this spot was one of those large, red, painful ones, that wasn't going anywhere - no needle could pop it or anything so this was somewhat of a last resort.. Having applied liberally all over the spot and the surrounding area I again left the gel overnight, waking up next morning I found that the gel had dried fairly crusty. Not a good look so I popped to the mirror and did probably the worst thing I could have, and pickled away the gel from the surrounding area, which pulled the top of my spot off and well made a mess.. However it did mean the spot was no longer large, red, or sore - it was just there and I was able to cover it up with concealer..

The main thing with this gel is that, it does help smaller spots - but does leave your skin quite dry, and in need of exfoliating. On larger spots beware that you might cause a mess but your face will feel a little relieved of the pressure lifted!

~*~ Price and Availability ~*~

This gel varies in price, but it is about £5 in various places.. It is easy to find across most drug stores, like Boots and Superdrug - there are offers all over the place week after week in different stores, so look out for it but on Amazon it is £4.99 for the 10g tube, which is what I have been using for the past few weeks..

Summary: It works differently on all skin, so give it a go if it's on offer!

Sounds very similar to the Quinoderm I buy at the chemists - except that stuff costs less that £3!

Still stings though.
