Advantages: 50% better hair removal
Disadvantages: 50% greater chance of cutting yourself, and 50% more damage when you do .
Razor adverts on TV are often ridiculous, with their preposterous promises about blades sharp enough to skin a fish while leave your skin soft and supple. Get a smooth chin and your towel-draped lover will bounce into the bathroom and stroke your face with her elegantly manicured hands. Rubbish.
Gilette make a ridiculous amount of fuss over this neat three-blade concept too. To put it blunty (or not, as the case may be), this is a pretty damn good razor. It whacks of the whiskers with minimum fuss, providing a closer shave in far less time than anything else I've tried. The third blade, one expects, must make it 50% more effective than the other weak little two-bladed efforts. This seems to be the case.
The actual handle of the razor is a bit awkward, it's at a slightly flatter angle than conventional razors and takes a little getting used to. The hinged head is a clever touch, making it easier to shave without cutting yourself which is really not what you want to do with a three-bladed razor.
It's not really worth chucking your old razor in the bin for, especially as the cost of blade replacements are dearer. But as a present for the man in your life, or a treat for occasions when you find yourself with a little extra money, it's a nice little extra to splash out on.
You have to wonder how long it'll be before someone manages to shoehorn a fourth blade in. Maybe then Gilette will come up with a yet more ludicrous marketing strategy. 'Gilette: The Fourth Dimension', 'Gilette Power Factor 4' or 'Gilette Quad Damage'. I can't wait...
