Advantages: close shave

Disadvantages: slightly more pricey

I, along with probably most men, take no sense of achievment or pleasure from shaving. It's just one of those things you have to do, unless of course you want to grow a beard. I don't, therefore I have to shave. Admitedly I don't shave nearly as often as I should and usually try to get away with a couple in a working week (we have a casual dress day on Fridays and stubble dosn't look so bad then ;-))

So, anything that can make this process less of a burden gets a bit gold star in my book. Enter Mach3 from Gillete, this has to be by far the best wet razor I have ever used and I'm going to attempt to tell you why.

Design -

The razor itself is the typical male slim handle design. It's a rather fetching black and silver design - the black parts are made from rubber to ensure a good grip is achieved - and more recently there's a fancy-dan blue and black design. I however will stick to my trusty black and silver model. A slight aside at this point - why do mens razors have a slim handle, while the female equivalent has a nice big chuncky handle??

The blade has - surprise, surprise - 3 blades and a little strip of soapy type stuff above the blades, to help the blade glide over your face?

So all in all nothing spectacular in design but it does the job.

Performance -

Whilst not quite as spectacular as the ad campaign would have you believe (who would shave like that? carelessly sweeping the razor all over the place. I mean that's just asking for trouble). It won't have you whooping with joy (well unless shaving's your "thing") but it will, in the words of another advertising campaign "Do exactly what it says on the tin". Well OK it doesn't come in a tin, but you know what I mean. You dont know what I mean? well let me elaborate - it gives a very close and relatively cut free shave (unless you happen to use it in a manner similar to the man in the a
d). It also manages not to irritate my skin as a nice bonus

Now the performance of any razor depends to a fair extent on the quality of the shaving gel/foam used. I personally use "King of Shaves" Gel and the combination works very well.

Price -

The only negative of the whole package is the price. The Mach3 is more expensive than it's competitors around £5 for the razor and £10 for 8 blades. The blades do however last for a good few shaves. I usually start to notice them going blunt after about 8 shaves, which isn't too bad. But you do have to pay for quality you know!

So to sum up. If you wet shave (and don't use a cut throat razor - which i've been meaning to invest in as I hear it's the best shave going.) then look no further. The Mach3 is in my humble opinion, the best razor on the market.

I currently use the Gillette twin-blade razor with the floppy head (forget the name - it's obviously not very memorable). I'll have to try the Mach III - anything for an easier life.

My hubby likes this but the blades are so expensive that I get the Tescos equivalent!

Good write up, I prefer the mach III to any other razor, but don't prefer the price! Ahh well, you get what you pay for!
