Advantages: Smells lovely and gentle on the lips
Disadvantages: You can't eat it :(
This year, me and the other half decided to make up a stocking for each other for Christmas day. Honestly, i was fantastic, so many wonderful and unusual bits and pieces. One of the very best bits? The Jelly Belly lip balm! I had no idea that Jelly Belly made anything like this (but I have since discovered they do everything from bags to bath gel!) so I thought id pop in my opinion on this dinky little lip balm.
The packaging
~~~~~~~~~~
This time, i got the 'Cotton Candy' lip balm, which comes in a small baby pink circular screw top pot, around 3cm wide. The pot is wider at the top around the lid, and tapers in at the bottom, like an upside down top hat - for want of a better analogy!
On the top, there is a sticker with 'cotton candy - deliciously scented lip balm' written across a pink scroll, with the red and yellow 'jelly belly' logo above. On the white background, there are lots of lovely little jelly beans, in pink, red, blue, green and yellow.
On the base of the pot, is a layered sticker with the size of the pot (6m), the best before date and the fantastic news that this product is not tested on animals. The sticker peels at the corner to reveal the ingredients list (handy for those with allergies) and the somewhat hilarious disclaimer 'Caution - this is not a food. Do not drink or eat.' You have been warned. ;)
Personally, I love the style of this lip balm. Great for kids, but cute and kitsch enough for adults too. The style is adorable, especially the baby pink. yummy enough to eat (but don't, because you have already been warned about that!)
The product
~~~~~~~~
The lip balm itself fills up just over 3/4 of the pot and is a lovely light pink colour. Whilst the product does have a tint, its too light to colour your lips and is generally just to add to the effect of the lip balm.
The balm is quite solid, and it takes a few squiggles with a warm finger to get off enough lip balm to put on your lips. However, once applied, this is a fantastic little balm. Gentle but not too light, and leaves a nice coat for a shine without being sticky or overbearing.
The very best thing though, is the smell. The Cotton candy smells like..well...cotton candy! Its just the most lovely sweet and sugary smell. Again, it makes you want to eat it, though sadly, it tastes only like lip balm.
If you have very dry or problematic skin I don't think the lip balm will be strong enough to condition your lips, but if you want a cute, and sweet smelling edition to your make-up bag, give this one a go. I got it for christmas, but from shopping around online it seems to cost around £1.50 - a real bargain for this lovely little thing :D
Also, if Cotton Candy isn't your thing, there are several other scents;
- Very Cherry
- Blueberry
- Tangerine
- Watermelon
- Bubblegum
Where to buy
~~~~~~~~~
Please correct me if im wrong, but I haven't seen these anywhere on the high-street. However, a little birdy tells me that they may be available from Topshop?
However, loads of different sellers have them on Ebay, or you can buy them from the UK jelly belly shop at: http://www.jellybelly-uk.com/cgi-bin/jb/products.p l?category=7
For my stocking, my other half brought them from Hawkins Bazaar, so they might be worth a check too at: http://www.hawkin.com/find/keyword-is-jelly+belly/ product-is-07830
Overall
~~~~~
I LOVE this lip balm. Its gentle on your lips and not sticky like other cheaper lip balms can be. The pot is adorable and the smell is gorgeous, im really looking forward to trying the other flavours! (nb - Scents, not flavours! >.<)
Summary: Excellent, cant wait to try the other scents!
