Advantages: Gentle, effctive and moisturising exfoliator.

Disadvantages: Availability and cost

I need to exfoliate every other day, otherwise I swear my face would fall off. I tend to have quite flaky skin, and exfoliating every other day is pretty much a must for me. Besides this I find that exfoliating is a good way to soften and cleanse the skin to prepare it for the chore that we call "shaving".

I came across K-XF by King of Shaves by chance when it was on offer in Superdrug (a third off!). As I had already bought the daily face wash by them (see seperate review),tihs was supposed to be the ideal companion. What you're supposed to do is alternate this with the face wash, but personally I just use them as and when.

The nice thing about this particular exfoliator is that instead of the harsh microscopic plastic (polypropylene) beads that some mens' exfoliators contain, this contains jojoba. In basic terms the plastic beads are too rough on the skin, and instead of just removing the dirt and dead skin from your face, they tend to cause minute tears to your skins' surface. On the other hand, the microscopic particles of jojoba present on this are much more gentle and go about the job of just removing the oil, dead skin and dirt present on the face.

Another nice thing about this exfoliator is the fact that it contains mango oil. Now not knowing about the cosmetic side of the humble mango, I presumed that its "moisture retaining" oil, would be a bit of blurb. It wasn't until after using the face wash (also containig mango oil) and my colleagues commented on how shiny my skin looked, that I thought there must be something in it. I've also found that I need to apply less moisturiser since using products containing this oil. The smell of this is quite pleasent, but not incredible.

Ingredients
-----------

Water, Sodium laureth sulfate , Glycerin (great vegetable-based moisturising agent), Cocamide DEA, Acrylates/C10-30 akyl acrylate crosspolymer, Triethanolamine, Hydrogenated jojoba oil (the moisturising/scrubbing ag
ent), Cocamidopropyl betaine, Panthenol (vitamin B-5,nutrient for hair and skin), PEG-70 mango glycerides (the mango oil for moisturisation), perfume, Menthyl PCA, Tocopheryl acetate, Methyldibromo glutaronitrile, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl alcohol (cleanser), Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone and finally Cl 42090 (that nice blue colour!)

Directions
----------

Firstly thoroughly soak your face with water, then squeeze a small amount of K-XF onto your palms. Rub it well into the skin, then rince off with plenty of water.

Results
-------

I think this seems to be a lot less harsh than other exfoliators which I have used in the past. Some seem to really tear away at the skin, wheras this just nicely buffs away at it. This doesn't leave my face sore after rinsing off either, and seems to ease shaving (particularly with a few days growth!). I'm very impressed with the results and I think I may well stick with this one in future.

The downsides of this product are few, basically it's the old chestnuts of price and availability. Firstly I do believe that you get what you pay for, and at £4.49 for 100ml it isn't THAT bad. Besides it's on offer at both Boots and Superdrug at the moment, and the bottle WILL last you ages. The range is becoming more and more widely available, from most Boots, Superdrugs, Tesco, Safeway and House of Fraser. Their website also has its own shop with discounts. A good product, with a very gentle, yet effective action.

Very informative - didn't realise you could write so much about an exfoliator! Well, I'll certainly inform my hubby that this product exists because, if it helps with shaving, then it will stop him making excuses about having to shave every day!

As for your face falling off - you poor soul. Can't you just wrap some cling film around it or something??? ;-)
