Advantages: smells nice - to me. Trouble free shave
Disadvantages: expensive, no better than the opposition and clogs easily
Well, I hope you all a great Xmas and Santa brought you just a bit more than a pair of Boxers with some holly in - or even some lightly scented margarine aftershave balm! Yep, for us men, it's usually the same old stuff - smellies - or socks - or undies - or shaving stuff, of course. Right then, with that seemless link let's cast my beady little eye over a product that is widely used by male shavers, and of which there is a huge variety in both price and effectiveness - SHAVING GELS. The single most important element of a good close shave is, of course, the razor. Us men - especially us who shave not only their beards/face, but also their heads (!), usually will swear by the excellent Gillette Mach 3 razor. (I would not knock any one who has gone out and bought their loved one a Gift set containing all the Gillette shaving products based around this razor). But hold the bus there a minute. King of Shaves are - in my humble opinion - just about the best at producing trouble and stubble free shaving gel and oils. Of that there is no doubt Quick pointer to a link here - go to www.shave.com and register to get a free trial size of several of their products, plus buy a range of items on line. King of Shaves have two gels that they make - Alphagel and the one I am writing about here, KINEXIUM. Sounds really 'State of the art' doesn't it? Well it's good - but how good? Basically, it's a low foaming gel which after you apply it to your already wet face, with glide your razor across your stubble effortlessly. Leaving you a smooth as a baby's bum and thankfully free of cuts, nicks or razor rash. > NICE AND SMELLY It does have a huge plus point for me. It has a strong menthol smell to it and does actually make you feel cleaner after shaving (as you should anyway). It is a manly smell, not one of these 'namby-pamby' pseudo designer smells. It's a good idea thoug
h, if using it in the shower - NOT to get it in your eyes!..OUCH! - Stingy!! ~~ (Nice quote from another member's op on this product - 'the odour is fine as long as you want to smell like a packet of cough sweets'....!) > CLOGS QUICKLY It does have another disadvantage for many people. Being a low foam gel, you find that the blade you are using will get clogged with stubble and gunk quite quickly. If you are using a good razor, that's no problem - if not - WHY NOT? After all if you are able to afford this gel, you should be able to afford a Good razor. > NOT CHEAP However at a price of around £4.85 for a 150ml tube, it's not cheap. And, after extensive 'test-driving' of a number of shaving foams, gels and oils over the past XX years (yes, XX means any number you care to pluck out of thin hair - oops 'air!), it is good - but not necessarily 'good value'. Personally I would select the 'Alphagel' that King of Shaves make or alternatively go for any number of the Gillette gels on offer. > REVOLUTIONARY According to the King Of Shaves 'blurb' on the package, this gel is the 'next generation' of shaving gels and takes shaving to a 'new level of performance'. It certainly gives you a smooth, comfortable shave, but as far as 'revolutionary' goes....well Che Guevara was a 'revolutionary?'and he had a beard! ...nuff said
