I first saw Liz Earle's Eyebright on QVC and knew it was a product I wanted to try. It's actually described as a 'soothing eye lotion' but in fact it is a gentle eye make-up remover, which you can also use as a sort of compress to soothe the eyes.

I wear contact lenses and at times my eyes can be quite sensitive. This product is suitable for contact wearers and actually contains a herb called eyebright as well as witch hazel which should help reduce puffiness and dark shadows and cornflower which soothes.

The product comes in a tall squared off bottle in an unattractive greeny-brown colour and opens by twisting the lid.

I will first talk about this product as an eye make-up remover. It's used like any other product of this type and put on cotton wool before wiping over the eyes.

This will remove eye make-up but is not designed to get rid of heavy or waterproof eye make-up. I found this for myself when attempting to use it to remove waterproof mascara, and although it took some of it off, I was mainly left with black smudges around my eyes - something like a panda! Liz Earle recommends using her cleanse and polish cleanser to get rid of heavier make-up.

On more subtle make-up, such as eyeshadow, a bit of pencil and non-waterproof mascara I actually find it to be fairly effective. The best thing about it is that unlike other eye make-up removers it is not in the least bit greasy. It feels very gentle on the eyes and I've even got the liquid in my eyes and it just doesn't sting or irritate whatsoever. I didn't actually realise that I had particularly sensitive eyes until I began to use this and I just saw a world of difference.

I have only used this as a compress a handful of times, but it does feel lovely on the eye area, especially if your eyes are feeling a bit sensitive or sore. To make a compress you simply soak two cotton wool pads in the product and then put them on your eyes for 5-10 minutes.

I've had a few contact lens disasters since buying this, one where I fell asleep with my contacts in and woke with extremely watery eyes and another where a lens split into two in my eye! Goodness knows how that happened but it was extremely painful and as the pieces were so small I couldn't remove them from my eye and had to leave them for around 3-4 hours to come out of their own accord. Afterwards my eye was quite sore and painful and applying this over the area was very soothing and seemed to calm the redness.

At £9.25 for a 150ml bottle this stuff is not particularly cheap. If your eyes are very sensitive however, and you've not managed to find a product that will soothe them I would strongly recommend this. It can be bought from QVC or www.lizearle.com

Overall, another lovely Liz Earle product and definitely one of my favourite so far. The only downside for me would be that it does not remove heavy or waterproof eye make-up, but as a product to soothe sensitive eyes it's fantastic.
