Advantages: Seems to do its job well enough

Disadvantages: A bit pricey and smells of bathroom cleaner

I bought a bottle of L'Oreal's Derma Genesis when i was in Boots last week - I needed a new moisturiser, I had a £5 off skincare voucher and felt like splashing out a bit more than I usually do. What could possibly go wrong?

Well, nothing really went wrong but nothing went fantastically right either. The moisturiser comes in a 50ml tall plastic pump-action tube and looks quite smart - all clear plastic and silver embellishents.

Derma Genesis is aimed at women aged 30-40, the sort of age where you start thinking about looking after your skin. It is SPF 15, which is always handy (although at the moment the rain is lashing aginst my window). L'Oreal also have moisturisers in the same range aimed at womens aged 40-50, 50-60 and 60 plus.

I needed about three pumps of the tube to get enough moisturiser to cover my face and neck. The moisturiser is quite thick and opaque and feels very rich as it is smoothed on. It didn't leave my skin feeling greasy and provided a good base for applying make-up. I've not noticed my skin reacting to it in an adverse way (I get spots if I use the wrong sort of moisturiser).

I can't vouch for its anti-aging claims as I've only been using it for a week. Maybe I'll update this review in forty years and let you know.

I have two gripes with this moisturiser. The first is that is smells of bathroom cleaner. This is not what I'm after in skin care. The second is that it's pretty expensive. I usually use a Nivea face cream that sets me back a good deal less than this one did and does exactly the same job. It also smells nicer.

A 50ml tube will set you back £15.99, although you can find it on eBay for less and Boots sometimes have offers that makes it a bit cheaper.

All in all, I'd say that this moisturiser is OK. Not great, not bad, just OK.

Summary: Don't think I'll bother with it again
