Advantages: gets skin clean and soft

Disadvantages: can be a bit oily, nothing special

After being disappointed with the Philosophy cleanser I had previously been using, I was hoping to find something better. I had bought a few new cleansers to try but decided on Lush's Baby Face as the next one I would use. The reason I had chosen to purchase this product, was mainly that I had read so many positive things on it, as well as liking it's name, which to me indicates smooth, baby soft skin.

The cleanser comes in a round bar which has a babies face moulded onto one side. I have to say, I actually find it a little bit creepy to look at, rather than cute as i think it's meant to be, but if nothing else, it's quirky! The bar is solid and waxy, and looks much like a bar of soap. I had thought in fact, that using this would be just like using a bar of soap, something that it became quickly apparent I was wrong about.

To use Baby Face, you simply smooth the bar over your face. Rather than creating a lather, like soap does, this will leave a trail of oil on your skin, which can then be rinsed off with water, or rubbed of with a damp cloth. I tried rinsing away with water the first time I used this, but it didn't feel like my skin was actually clean - it still felt oily - so I have since been using a damp cloth to remove the oils which seems to work much more effectively.

The bar contains Shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, avocado butter, narcissus absolute and everlasting flower absolute amongst a few other things. It has a gentle citrus smell, which wasn't too dissimilar to the Philosophy Purity Made Simple cleanser I had used prior to this one.

I found the bar to be effective at removing most make-up, but would not shift mascara, so I had to continue to use a separate eye-make remover at the same time as using this.

Immediately after using this my skin felt clean and soft, and although I tend to have fairly sensitive skin, it did not seem to be irritated, dry or tight after using this. After approximately three weeks of use, I noticed that my skin seemed to be becoming a little bit greasy and coming out in little spots - especially around my hairline. I went back into Lush and talked to one of the assistants, who advised to make extra sure that I was removing all the oil from the bar after use, and also gave me a sample of another Lush cleanser -Fresh Farmacy- to try. After a week or so of using the Fresh Farmacy cleanser, I went back to using baby face. I've been using it for a few more weeks, and things seem to have improved. I make extra sure I have removed all the cleanser from around my hair line where I seemed to be getting spots, as I think perhaps because the oils go onto the skin clear, I was sometimes leaving a bit on my skin. I always follow with a toner now too, and that seems to have helped.

Apart from leaving my skin clean and soft, I don't think there have been any particularly huge benefits to using this - appearance wise, for example, my skin does not really look any difference, and I didnt find there to be anything outstanding about this product.

A bar of babyface costs £3.95 and can be purchased in store or online at www.lush.co.uk. Mine so far has lasted quite some time, and there's still loads left, so despite it being smaller in terms of weight, I think it's more economical than the Lush Fresh Farmacy cleanser, which is the same price, but wears down really quickly.

Overall, this is an OK cleanser, but I don't think I'd buy it again. Despite it giving me spots and making my skin feel a little bit oily at first, it was simple to use, but I don't think there was anything that made it outstanding, so I'll try something else next time.
