Advantages: Great on your skin, fresh. Makes a difference
Disadvantages: The smell!
If you have read any of my previous reviews then you will have realised how much of a fan I am of all things from the shop Lush. When I last visited my local shop on the look out for a birthday gift for a friend and to grab some more of my ocean Salt Scrub I was very kindly given a pot of the Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face mask to try. (I think it had something to do with the amount I had spent in the shop!)
I had always looked at the fresh face masks before but for some reason had never brought one so the little sample pot that I had been given was a great way for me to give them a go.
Lush offer a number of fresh face masks, all coming in the traditional black pots that Lush supply and are all priced at £6.45. This at first appeared slightly expensive compared to other facemasks that I had tried but that was before I had given the Lush product a go! I am now in the belief that this is one of those products that you get what you pay for as it has certainly worked for me compared to other products that I had paid less for.
The cosmetic warrior facemask (what a fab name by the way!) is specifically designed to combat spots, calm and soothe problem skin and to give the skin on your face a really seep cleanse. I am prone to the odd spot or blemish so even though this facemask was a freebie it was still suited to my skin.
What is important to note about the Lush facemasks is that they are just that, fresh so they do need to be kept chilled so I placed it in my fridge as soon as I got home and left it there until I was ready to use it.
When you do use the facemask it is very easy to apply. Like most facemasks you need to clean your skin before hand. You then simply take the facemask from the pot using your fingertips and directly put it onto your face, avoiding the eye area. It is quite cold as it hits your skin but this is due to it having been in the fridge before use. You are then recommended to leave the facemask on your skin for 5 to 10 minutes and once the time is up you have to rinse it away with warm water.
What you instantly notice using this facemask is that before you even apply it to your skin is the smell. Lush is known for its fragrances and scents that are used in its products but this one has the slightly unusual combination of Antiseptic, fresh garlic, tea tree and essential oil. What a combination!
It is the garlic that hits you first, my first pot (The sample size) was not to bad but when I went back to Lush and brought myself a full sized pot the smell of the garlic was really strong, slightly overpowering in my opinion. The only smell that you can smell other than the garlic is that of the fresh grapes that are used in the product. The product also contains softening honey and fresh free-range eggs.
The texture of my sample pot was slightly watery but the full sized pots consistency was really thick, it was no problem in applying but there was a definite difference in texture.
If you move away from the scent of the smell, I have to admit that this facemask did make a difference to my skin. During the winter months it goes quite dry but this facemask really did calm my skin down. When the facemask is on your skin it does not give of a heat to your skin or feel like it is burning, it just feels soft and does not tighten your skin in any way, which has put me off using certain brands of facemasks in the past before. My skin felt softer as soon as I had rinsed the mask off and after using it regularly I can certainly see an improvement in my skin.
In summary, this product would have been getting a 5 out of 5 stars from me, had it not been for the smell which is a little hard to take to but definitely worth preserving with. The fact that the facemask really did work and did exactly what it promised was great and brings me back to the fact you do sometimes get what you pay for. At £6.45 this is slightly more expensive than other facemasks on the market but it is those other facemasks that have not really made a difference to my skin.
4 out of 5 would have been 5 if not for that garlic smell!
Thanks for reading.
Summary: Great facemask, not so great smell, recomended though!
