Advantages: Cleanses and tightens your skin
Disadvantages: Only recommended for oily skin types
Most recently, I've been focused on sampling Lush's skin care items. One of the most interesting products that the company makes is the Bio-Fresh Face Mask. I visited my now nearest store in Taunton (I do miss the Bath store!) shop earlier this month and brought home three different fresh face masks (this does seem a little excessive!), including Cupcake.
The facemasks are Lush's fabulous hand-made Bio-Fresh masks. As the name implies, there's nothing artificial about these masks. They're freshly made with natural ingredients and as a result, do have a limited shelf life, typically about 3 weeks. They also should be refrigerated. If you don't think you'd enjoy a cold mask on your face, then they might not be for you. But I still recommend trying them. They're unique and different, unlike anything you probably have ever tried. Each has a special focus (such as good for oily skin or dry skin) but it's okay if you try ones perhaps not designated for your skin type because they're still good for tightening pores and rejuvenating your complexion.
Lush designed this vegan purifying mask for oily skin, now I have generally dry to sometimes sensitive skin (depending on what time of the year it is) and despite the sales assistant tried to give me something else I just had to have it!! Who doesn't like the sensation of chocolate, not only in the mouth, but on the skin? This is the most scrumptiously scented mask you'll ever encounter. The smell of chocolate arouses your senses!! Cupcake is so popular it took me three attempts to buy this face mask! Cupcake has a wonderfully smooth but thick consistencey and looks like a jar of nutella! It is however supplied in the usual plastic tubs and despite the "snap on" design they often fail, so make sure when you purchase yours, you keep it up right at all times.
In addition to Cupcake's deep cleansing Rhassoul mud and skin-softening cocoa and vanilla, once you've allowed it to dry you can even rinse with circular motions to get the added benefit of exfoliation at which time, refreshing spearmint and peppermint oils will take centre stage to tone the skin and rejuvenate the mind. Unlike most face masks you won't be left with a face like stone! Fear not you can still speak and still smile while wearing this mask. It stays incredibly supple on your skin for the duration. Cupcake is incredibly easy to apply because of its great thick consistency you can apply it direct onto dry skin without any drippage! You only need to use a little to give a light layer over the face, anymore and you are just simply wasting a great product!
There is, however there is one small catch - you must wash your face with a cleanser or light makeup remover after using this mask. Try this to find out why:- post-Cupcake mask, sweep a bit of toner onto your skin and then have a quick glance at your cotton ball. You will find that, to varying degrees, Cupcake has left a yellow-ish brown residual film on your face, no matter how well you tried to rinse it off. This will occur in direct proportion to how long you leave this mask on. And though Lush recommends that you leave Cupcake to work its magic for a mere ten minutes, I challenge anyone to be so quick to bid Cupcake's delicious fragrance adieu. Please be aware though that even though the mask does not dry rock solid it does take quite a bit of effort to remove it from your face and even more so your flannel or sponge will look unsightly!
Even though Cupcake was not designed for my type of skin, I have to say that my skin felt rejuvenated after using Cupcake reguarly over a few days. My skin was looking extremely healthy, it almost had a glow, like I had just rinsed off days and days worth of grime! Face masks are only designed to stay fresh for 3 weeks which really gives you quite a bit of time to use them, Cupcake managed to last for 4 weeks and was still just as fresh. Out of my 100g I managed to get about 6 masks which was great! I would recommend this to people with all skin types as this really refreshes the skin and clears the pores!
What Lush say:-
"Chocolate heaven for oily and teenage skin.
Its action removes excess oil and calms breakouts. Rhassoul mud cleans and soothes, Cocoa butter, Linseed and Cocoa powder soften the skin. Balancing peppermint, spearmint and sandalwood oils complete this effective and delicious experience. Apply to clean skin, avoiding the eye area. Leave for five to ten minutes, then rinse away with warm water. Keep chilled"
The story behind Cupcake:-
A chocolate mask, that looks like a Cup Cake mixture. Also for young skins, and sometimes we call young ones little Cup cakes as a term of endearment. A mask originally inspired by Mark and Mo's daughter Clare, for teenage skin prone to breakouts, using cocoa powder to create a chocolate face mask to encourage young people to get interested in skincare in a kind, effective and fun way.
Cupcake is best bought in store because it's kept either in refrigerators or in huge ice trays instore where the face masks are kept in big metal bowls which look like ice cream! However they can be also be now bought online, which is a bit strange as they need to be kept cold at all times! Cupcake will set you back £6.31 for a 100g pot which yes is a little on the pricey side but I think it is well worth it. Also if you take in 5 pots back to Lush they will give you a free face mask!
Summary: A must for anyone wanting to indulge
