Advantages: Fantastic moisturiser jam packed full of natural ingredients

Disadvantages: I've thought for ages, nope, there aren't any

One of the many things I love about Lush is how so many of their products can be so ostentatious without being unethical - glitter, stars, fizzing, pinks, yellows, purples - the shop is a riot of firework-esque razzle dazzle! And that is before you even factor in the cacophany of scents. This experience, and sensory overload, is embraced with both arms by those of us Lush lovers, but can be overwhelming for some customers, which is why you'll often see someone (dare I say it, usually a man) huddled outside whilst their partner wades in the joy of Lush inside.

However, one of the other (many) things that I love about Lush is that their products really work, and their functionality is never compromised for the sake of looks or glamour. In fact, some products are very unassuming indeed, and in these most understated packages come some of Lush's most powerful potions.

Dream Cream is the best example of this. In a plain black tub with only the bare essentials on it of name and ingredients, this moisturiser sits quietly at the back of the shop and is hardly screaming 'Buy Me!'. However, plenty of Dream Cream does leave the shop, it is Lush's very best selling product, worldwide - because it is a not very well kept secret that Dream Cream is about the most successful and gentlest moisturiser available.

Instead of relying on a designer name, flashy packaging, expensive chemicals and a tv advertising campaign, Lush have just found all that nature has to offer to help us keep our skin soothed and soft, and crammed it all into a tub. That means camomile, lavender, rose, olive oil, oats, cocoa butter and tea tree oil, working together to relieve blemishes and make your skin beautiful. All these natural and gentle ingredients (with the possible exception of tea tree, a natural astringent to help with spots) mean that Dream Cream can be used on sensitive skin and is ideal for after sun. It is light and non-greasy, but incredibly moisturising, can reduce skin irritations and redness and can even help with skin conditions like psoriasis.

For me, an added advantage of Dream Cream is that it doesn't have an overpowering smell, unlike some body butters or moisturisers. I really don't want my moisturiser to compete with my perfume or even my shampoo! Dream Cream has a very subtle smell of camomile and lavender, which is faint but quite relaxing and comforting.

A 240g pot as pictured above cost £9.50 currently. If this seems a lot, think about all those lovely tried and tested traditional ingredients and compare it with how much of the cost of an alternative (L'Oreal? Avon? Clinique?) product will be spent on the packaging, advertising and chemical perfumes. This would make a fab Christmas present, tie a ribbon round it if it isn't glamourous enough!

Summary: You deserve it!
