Advantages: Works brilliantly, Solid bar

Disadvantages: Messy

Us girlies all like to look after our skin don?t we? Constantly reminded by my son that I am now officially middle aged I am even more aware that time is marching on, and I want my skin to look as best as it possibly can. Ok so I?ll admit it, I?ve been really lucky. The years have been pretty kind to me, and I never suffered with spots or anything as a stroppy teenager, but there are a few wrinkles beginning to show now but of course I refer to them as laughter lines.

As a youngster I was always told by my Mum to never wash my face with soap and water and that advice has stuck with me over the years. I do have extremely sensitive skin, and have been known to break out in a livid rash, at the merest sniff of some products and for a while I could only use baby lotion on my face, as most other products would leave me looking like an extra from the ?Thriller? video, and I would be itching for days. I was beginning to think that all was lost??until now. At this point I suppose I should mention that I am about to review yet another Lush product, and positively at that, but I guess you all knew that already?..

Lush have only recently introduced their skincare range onto the market and claim that they spent so long researching ideas for their wonderful scrummy products because they wanted them to be perfect. In fact, it has taken the company 20 years to get the skincare range to the standard they wanted, so they?ve got to be good haven?t they?

Having been a Lush addict for some time, it came as no surprise to any of my family that I would eventually exhaust all possibilities of bubble bars, ballistics and soaps, and move on to other things, so when we last paid a visit to the shop there was a lot of groaning, sighing and rolling of eyes from the male contingent, while my daughter and I happily scampered off into the sweet sme
lling paradise.

If you?ve not tried the skincare range before, the possibilities are endless, and on the website alone there are nine different varieties of cleansers. Lush don?t do your normal old liquid cleansers though, oh no. If you?re looking for squirty bottles, don?t bother; all you?ll find here is neat little tubs full of splodgy gooey stuff, or solid bars of cleansing miracles. I freely admit that I chose Fresh Pharmacy because of its appearance and little else. Lush make products that look good enough to eat and the Farmacy is no exception. A solid lump of plump pinkness, Fresh Farmacy looks like a slice of pate and temptingly edible. The pastel pink colouring of the bar resembles the colour of Germolene cream that my mum used to slap all over me as a child when I was in the wars, and the top of the slice is an autumn coloured orange-brown infusion of dried marigold petals. If buying from the website there are two different sizes; 100g bar costing £2.95 and the £200g bar for £5.95. I would advise settling for the smaller version first, in case you decide you don?t like it, which I?m sure will not be the case once you have discovered its benefits.

Fresh Farmacy contains a selection of essential oils, in keeping with all of the other wonderful smellies that Lush produce. Inhale deeply into a bar of this wonderful stuff, and there is a strong smell of Calamine. Ah yes, it?s all falling into place now, that explains the pinky hue. Chamomile oil is used in the Fresh Pharmacy bar, which is well known for its wonderful effects on problem skin, as it relieves itchiness and soothes any red patches, as is Lavender oil, which is also added to the bar. Those who hate the smell of Lavender as it reminds them of old grannies, don?t despair. I can?t detect any hint of lavender about the bar at all, even when I inhale really dee
ply and press my nose right on its sticky clay like surface. The strongest smell that comes from Fresh Farmacy is Calamine, giving it an overall medicinal aroma, which may be slightly off putting for some, but there is a faint overtone of floral whiffs, which must be the marigolds, although it is masked by the calamine.

Using a solid cleansing bar for the first time is just like using a bar of soap. I tend to use mine whilst bathing, simply because I?m too lazy to stand up and cleanse after relaxing in the bath for half an hour or so. Simply dampen the face with some water, and rub the bar over your skin, or use a cloth to apply. Farmacy does not lather like a soap, instead it emits a rich creamy camomile smelling substance that coats the skin, and dries into a sticky mask. There is a little tightening of the skin but never fear, after washing off with some warm water, I promise you that your skin will feel absolutely wonderful.

And now to the important part??.Does Fresh Farmacy work? Well, I can quite categorically state that after using this lump of clay-like smelly stuff, I will never again buy any other cleansing products again. Not only is Farmacy really gentle on my skin, it leaves it feeling as smooth as a baby?s bum and I have not suffered any irritation at all, despite using it for over a month now. When I?ve used the Olay Complete Care Facewash in the past, my skin has felt tight and dry after washing, and also really itchy and sore, yet Farmacy has a totally opposite effect. My thirteen year old son, who is prone to a few outbreaks of spots and has tried every cleansing wipe and face wash going has also used Farmacy and his spots clear up in no time. Coincidence perhaps? I think not. He?s chuffed to bits with Fresh Farmacy and so am I.

What are you all waiting for then? Surely &
#73;?ve convinced you to rush off and buy some by now. Ditch those liquid cleansers and miracle spot remedies and try a lump of pink perfection instead.

This sounds fantastic, but I'm not sure I'd find a place for the bar to go without getting all messed up as our bathroom has minimal storeage space!
