Advantages: leaves skin smooth, easier to use than I first thought, a little goes a long way
Disadvantages: the smell
What is it?:
++++++++
This is a cleanser in a more solid form than you may have come to expect (unless you’re a regular at Lush, where after a while you come to expect the unexpected). It contains ground almonds and rice bran to exfoliate, kaolin to absorb excess oil and lot of herbal ingredients such as powdered chamomile and rose petals. And guess what?! It is specifically designed for greasy/combinations skin (which is exactly what I have, with some spots chucked in for good measure).
The Look/First Impressions:
+++++++
This definitely wouldn’t win any awards for it’s good looks, but I wouldn’t let that put you off. It’s quite a deep green with what looks like pieces of marigold and rose petal in it, I guess these help with exfoliating, through I’m not sure. The colour puts me in mind of the Incredible Hulk and I guess if I was continuing with this association I would say that it’s similar in that although it looks big, bad and scary, it’s just hiding it’s more caring side.
Scent:
+++++
Herbalism definitely smells distinctive, and I’m none too sure about the scent of this product, as there is something in the smell that just doesn’t agree with me.
How to Use:
+++++++++
I wet my face, take a small pea sized amount in my hands with a little warm water, rub together to make it into a paste then gently massage it all around my face and neck. It can take some getting used to, but I generally use it in the mornings when I shower and I don’t find it takes much more effort than any other face washes I’ve tried. If, however, you just want to use it outside of the shower I would recommend you do the same as above but at the end use a mild toner to make sure that none of it is left on your skin.
Effects:
++++++
When I’m washing this product off it can feel like there’s a film left on my skin, but once my skin is dry this feeling disappears completely, and it doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry at all, like most products designed for greasy skin. The nicest thing about Herbalism is that it does leave your skin feeling lovely and soft.
Pricing:
+++++
At £3.95 for 100g (from the website, in the shop you can get different amounts) I think that Herbalism is of an average price for Lush. When comparing it with your more run of the mill products it may seem a little on the expensive side until you realise that you need only a small amount of the product at a time and so it does last quite a while. You can buy it in a larger quantity but I wouldn’t recommend it, especially when first buying it, as the product has a relatively short shelf life, and if you get it wet, even shorter.
Conclusion:
+++++++++
I like everything about this product apart from the smell, which isn’t too much of a hardship to endure when it leaves your skin feeling so nice, however, I am reserving my final judgement until few weeks down the line when I will update this review with the impact it has had on helping to clear up my very spotty skin, if indeed it helps at all.
Summary: An unusual and intriguing product
