Advantages: Smells and tastes fabulous, moisturises, softens and soothes
Disadvantages: It is £4.50
Eurgh I hate this time of the year when it gets dark early and it is cold, wet and miserable and I decided to cheer myself up by looking at gift ideas for Christmas for some friends of mine. One friend has never tried Lush products, can you imagine that? Well her luck is about to change because she shall be receiving a package for her birthday in a few weeks full of my favourite items. Whilst browsing online I noticed the Christmas section was highlighted, tempting me to click on the button to have a look, well it didn't take much persuasion and within seconds I had added a few items to my basket and duly checked out.
As well as products for the bath and bath, I am quite fond of the Lush lip Balms and at this time of the year they are a product I tend to use more than anything else in my bag. The cold weather plays havoc with my skin and the last thing I need are chapped lips, honestly it is just not something I am willing to accept and given that there are products out there on the high street designed to deal with this issue from as little as 99p there is no excuse, I just want something a little more fancy and less boring and to do that I go to Lush. A few of my older reviews set out exactly why for me lips are so important and much of it stems from the fact that the mouth is one of the most important aspects on the face whether you are using it to talk, kiss or eat, if it looks horrible with bits of skin hanging off here and there, it isn't going to look nice to those people who have to look at you, in my opinion anyway.
Let them eat cake is found within the Christmas section and it is the only item to be found under Lip Balms, so the choice was actually quite an easy one to make, it sounded quite delicious from the blurb written about it which helps. I have also used other Lush products in the past such as Lip Service which was really good but this time I fancied a change and as well as Let them eat cake I also purchased Lip Squeak which I haven't yet used.
Let them eat cake is presented like all Lush Lip Balms in a small silver tin, very similar to the one Vaseline comes in and weighs the same 10g but is more expensive at £4.50. Clearly shown on this tin is a bright pink label which has "Let them eat cake" written on it in white lettering. The small tin itself has a twist and pop lid and to it can sometimes be tricky to open particularly if you have got cold or wet hands, but the seal is quite tight which is important in products like this because it stops them from drying out.
So what is contained within 'Let them eat cake' to make it smell so delightful? Firstly there is Butter and Shea Butter which is known to moisturise the skin and help keep it soft and supple. Beeswax and Olive Oil are used for their lubrication aspects. Plum Kernel Oil is used to help re-hydrate lips and work with the other ingredients to add suppleness. There is also Lemon and Lime oil, both of which are good at helping to keep bacteria at bay and decongest the skin removing any impurities, which on the lips is very important. The final ingredients I am going to mention is Cognac Oil which boasts a very powerful and fruity aroma and it blends well with the Lemon and Lime oils and the fresh orange peel infusion to create that Christmas smell and putting them all together the description which I feel is best fitting is toffee and that is what this lip balm reminds me, those old toffee 2p shaped lollypops you used to get in your pick and mix rather than a cake, so the title confuses me slightly although I am told by Lush that the ingredients used within the product are similar to those you would use to make a Christmas Cake given that there is fruit, brandy and orange peel. As always with Lush there is a whole list of further ingredients, which can be found on the Lush Website.
To apply this product to your lips, all you need to do is get a little bit of the balm onto your finger and the best way I have found to do this is to run my finer around the outside of the tin (after removing the lid obviously) then you rub your finger over your lips before rubbing them together to make sure you have covered them entirely. Once that has been done, I am quite terrible and always taste the lip balm, one day they will invent something which smells amazing but tastes so bad I stop licking my lips, but anyway for me it tasted just as good as it smelt and naturally if you lick your lips a lot it will only give you chapped lips and the product will not work - so don't do it! The smell is quite fragrant and a few people in the office have noticed the smell and have asked me what I have been eating, on the assumption I am hiding sweets from them. When I show them it is the lip Balm they were at the time quite surprised and I am now trying to encourage them to buy some, mainly in the hope they don't like it so I can have it.
After using this product for the last 4 weeks, still using the same 10g tin as well, so again a little certainly does go a long way, I have noticed a difference in the softness of my lips which are now much more moisturised and I believe that is down to this product which I do apply 2 or 3 times a day, depending on how I feel. Are there any downsides to this product? For me only the price which at £4.50 for 10g is rather a lot considering the same sized tin of Vaseline retails at anything from £0.99p to £1.29 but having that said that, it does in my opinion smell much better, moisturise much better and absorbs itself into your lips far better.
So would I recommend this product? I absolutely would without a shadow of a doubt because it is a product that works and works well and also as someone with super sensitive skin I would also suggest trying any of their products, but I would also advise you to go onto their website and check the ingredients used, they are listed under each product so it is easy to find out.
