Advantages: The scent, the moisturising qualities and the cute case.
Disadvantages: Rare/hard to find
I am quite chuffed with this lip balm- quite chuffed as it not only does a good job, it was also free! -well, sort of free.
Normally this lip balm would cost around £4.40 if you could buy it- I would imagine it will be back next year as its so yummy! (Its a Christmas product which was given to me free when I purchased something else from Lush). If you can get it on Ebay, I would!
The lip balm itself smells sort of alcoholic- its not, its not passed its sell by/use by date either, its just the way its supposed to smell. Its supposed to smell just like Christmas cake, which I think it does a perfect job of doing. The main ingredients are Organic Olive Oil, Dried Current and Sultana and Black Treacle which is also Organic. Followers of Lush will know well that Lush like to use natural products over man made ones wherever possible, and veer towards vegan over animal based products, and this lip balm is no different, being branded as a "Vegan" product by Lush.
The tin itself is tiny! Its about 10 grams of lip balm inside, and I would say the tin is about 5 cm width/length and maybe 1 cm tall. The size actually does not matter, as unlike Vaseline and other lip balms I have tried, one application does last a long time. I only generally apply this once or twice a day.
On opening the lip balm, the contents inside are a pale beige/creamy colour, and are solidified so you just need to brush your finger (or a lip brush if your being extra hygenic) over to transfer the product onto your lips. Another way I sometimes use is to literally kiss the lip balm itself- thus transferring the product directly onto your lips. This misses out the corners of your lips but to be honest, having lip balm on the corners of your lips can give the appearance you are drooling! -just be careful never to offer anyone else use of your lip balm if this is the way you choose to apply it, as they are likely to use their own fingers, and transfer germs into the pot this way.
Once on, its clear why you only need a little bit! It spreads over your lips with ease, even if your lips are split and dried to bits, it does not sting and still travels a long way.
There is a slight sweet taste to the lip balm, which I would imagine comes from the dried fruit and black treacle, its a nice taste, but not the sort of thing you go around eating from the pot if you know what I mean! So a good balance there.
I was/am wary of applying lip balm as it worries me my lips could become dependant on a lip balm, and stop producing their own natural oils and in doing so, create an expensive addiction to lip balm (something I know from experience happens with Vaseline). But as I only need to apply this once per day, my lips have not become overly dry as a result- in fact they are in perfect condition! I have been using this since mid January and its worked out well for me.
My only downsides to this are that its only out once a year (around Christmas time), it does or can melt very easily in the pot- though I am yet to have it turn to liquid on me, just like Vaseline, its noticeably softer after its been in your jeans pocket and this means its easy to use more then is necessary and waste it. Not what you want as you get 10 grams which can easily vanish if your using more then required.
I also dislike how difficult it can be to open the pot up with slippery fingers- though I have to say its no harder then Vaseline pots, but a push to open button or leaver would be a welcome addition to this pot.
I still am going to give this pot 5 stars as I think its unfair to mark it down on things that really make little if any difference to the actual product.
Summary: A good purchase- or very good freebie.
