Advantages: Oil based, smells delicate, tastes OK, works well

Disadvantages: A bit fiddly

I am becoming a bit of a churner today. I wrote a review about our Christmas tree and then realised that it was an archive category and so not paying. I then decided it was time that I wrote my review about coping with my father's Alzheimer's disease hoping that my own situation might help others. After working on it for an hour or so I found it was posted in yet another archive category! Still that one needed writing so that's not so bad. Now I'll write in a paying category as that is what we're here for whether we like to admit it or not!

While we have been staying in Edinburgh I have been able to do something that I can't do in Llandudno and that is to visit a Lush store! In fact I've been in two of them since I have been here, although I only made a purchase in one, I went into the other just for a sniff!

So what did I buy? Well at Christmas there is a lot of unusual stuff in Lush, a lot of which has 'Christmassy' fragrances or contains glitter or other stuff which will get stuck round your bath! Now I'm a traditional Lush girl and I like the fragrances that you smell and immediately know that it's Lush, the Comforter Bubble Bar that I received for my birthday recently is a great example.

So with all that in mind I avoided the bubble bars and bath fizzes and went for the little tins by the counter. I chose The Lite Lip Balm and The Whoosh Temple Balm.

The Lite Lip Balm cost me £4.40 for 10g of the product in a sliver coloured tin, not in the glass tub as shown at the top of the review. They must have changed their packaging since this category was set up.

The tin is about an inch and a half in diameter and about half an inch deep. The lid screws off, but it is a bit fiddly to do! The label on the lid is bright red and just has the words 'FRESH HOMEMADE COSMETICS LITE LIP LIP BALM' written on it in white.

If you get a magnifying glass (if your eyesight is as bad as mine) and read the ingredients list on the back you will find that the ingredients contain Shea butter, beeswax, apricot kernel oil, corn oil, olive oil and rose absolute amongst others.

The assistant in Lush explained that, since it was based on oils rather than water, it was good to use in very cold weather. Water would tend to freeze on your lips whereas the oil won't and I guess they get some freezing weather up here in Edinburgh during the winter! We've had some whilst we've been here!

Whilst in the shop I tried the tester and thought it seemed nice and not too tasty. I say that because I do tend to keep licking my lips if the lip balm tastes too nice! LOL!

As I said earlier I do find the lid a bit difficult to remove but I'm sure I'll get the knack! The fragrance is not strong but there is a delicate smell of rose wafting from the tin. The lip balm itself is a solid block and is a lot stiffer than any other lip balm I've used. It is quite difficult to put on but I am sure that will mean that it will last a good while! Having said all that it feels good on my lips and certainly gives me the protection from the weather that I need, as I do suffer badly from dry and chapped lips if I don't use a good lip balm.

In conclusion I shall enjoy using this balm but would probably not buy it again (even if I did live near a branch of Lush!) as I find the Nivea tube lip balms to be better for me.

Summary: It's a nice lip balm but I prefer Nivea

The scents really make it worth the added hassle of the tin for me. Wait - THREE Lush stores?! Princes St, Ocean Terminal... do we have another one!? ::gets excited::

I always buy tubes as I'm forever having to reapply and can't be doing with pots! I recently bought some Superdrug ones and they work really well.
