Advantages: Effective, Ethically developed

Disadvantages: Unusual texture may take some getting used to

The choice of lip balms is pretty bewildering these days, but personally I don't like the more gunky, oil-based products, so I was tempted by the description of Lush's Lite lip balm. It uses plant mallows to provide softness and protection.

The balm is a rather unusual texture, feeling slightly tacky on the fingertips. But this aspect seems to disappear when the product is actually applied to the lips, and it feels fine. Your lips do feel nicely moisturised, and slightly plumper. The balm has a pleasant but neutral taste and scent, and would be fine to wear over or under lipstick.

Perhaps because of its formulation, I also find it lasts longer than e.g. the lipstick type balms. It is also pretty weather resistant, coping with heat better than some products, and if it gets very cold, you only need to warm it on your fingers for a second to make application easier.

Lush's aren't the cheapest products around, but this pot would last you a long time, and there is the reassurance that it consists of natural ingredients and that no animals have suffered for its development.
