Advantages: terrific cleanser, tingly feeling
Disadvantages: tingles might not be for everyone
I admit it freely, unlike many others who view this site, I am not a ‘Lush Addict’. I’ve had a couple of disappointing purchases from Lush in the past and this has spoiled all the raving reports I’ve read. But shopping in Dublin the other week, I had a few hours to spare before an appointment, so wandering around the back-streets in town I found myself outside the Lush store. I had smelled medicinal smells from a little bit up the road, so I subconsciously knew that within minutes I’d be at the store.
Usually I wander in, check out the exotic and rather odd names that the products are given, then meander back out of the store, but with time to kill I began to mess around with testers and chat to the staff. I’d read a lot of reviews about the Mask of Magnaminty, and recalled them all being positive so I had a brief chat to the sales assistant about it. She gushed that it was wonderful and that ‘honestly’ and she did specify that she was being honest, it was the best face mask that she’d ever tried. I smelled the tester. It was very strong, but pleasant, and I sampled the thick texture on the back of my hand. I really had a good feeling about this purchase!
So, on getting home I opened my little Lush carrier bag and read the black pot of goo that I’d just bought. 125g of green gloop in the tub with little brown chunks mixed in for good measure. Worryingly it was like a small tub of Mint Choc Chip ice-cream, but with a much more natural minty smell. The lid calls the Mask of Magnaminty a “Big Green Giant of a face and back pack” so I assume you could have someone apply it to your back for you. I’m not interested in that aspect though as I have no problems with the skin on my back. My facial skin however can be quite temperamental, and I did hope that the mask would provide some relief and ‘deep cleansing’ as it suggests it will.
So digging my hand into the pot and smoothing the cream on to my face was a very pleasant experience. The peppermint tingled as the mask was applied and it still tingled as the mask dried. It was a refreshing, relaxing tingle and I really felt as if my pores were being cleansed right to the bottom. I’m sure I wasn’t a pretty sight, with my green face but I lay on my bed waiting for the mask to dry so that I could go in to the bathroom and wash it off. After 15 minutes (I like to apply a thick layer) I approached the bathroom sink and massaged the mask off in circular motions as it suggests on the pot. This was when I could feel the aduki beans within the mask gently exfoliating the skin. It was blissful.
I patted my face dry with a towel and looked into the mirror. What I saw was radiant healthy skin that was as soft as a peach. No word of an exaggeration, my skin has never ever felt so soft. I popped my tub in to the fridge (as that’s supposed to be the best place to keep it as the ingredients are totally fresh) and I went to bed. Until I fell asleep I could not stop feeling my cheeks amazed at how soft they felt. I lay considering which product I’d try next… a big change from my previous Lush experiences!
My tub is dated until 28/01/05 so I hope to have it finished by this date. I’m using it weekly so that I don’t waste any but I must add that this my tub cost only £2.25 , much less than other face masks I’ve tried in the past, and I know I’ll get at least ten more applications from my tub. Christmas late nights and lack of sleep will take its toll on my skin, but now I’m prepared! ‘Mask of Magnaminty’ is my secret weapon!
If you are a Lush addict then you’ll already know how wonderful this product is, however if, like me, you’ve never been convinced then I urge you to try this. Your skin will love you for it  Even if every other item I try from Lush is rubbish, I’ll still love them for this beauty! My fondest thanks to ‘Justin’ the wonderful man who made my pot on 28/09/04!
