Advantages: Smells amazing, easy to use, easy to find, cheap
Disadvantages: None it is fab
Lip care some of you might have noticed I deem to be quite an important part of my beauty regime and mainly because I spend a lot of my working day dealing with ordinary members of the public, business clients and other professionals within my work place. So to have well a manicured hand for me isn't enough. Meeting and greeting people means I use my mouth a lot to talk, to eat with over business lunches and so on. So for me there is nothing worse than having dry chapped lips which are sore and raw looking and with some of the products available on today's market, there is never really a need to let your lips get into that state in the first place.
I am a huge fan of lip scrubs, one of my last reviews was about a Lush lip scrub and this one is about the other lip scrub available from Lush. Why do I like these products? Simply because I feel there has been a gap left on the market for high street leading cosmetic companies to fill. It is increasingly difficult to find a lip scrub at a reasonable price not some exorbitant price which leaves you weeping as you leave the checkout. So Lush it seems has catered for this niche in the market and at a reasonable cost as well.
Mint Julips Lip Scrub is an alternative to Sweet Lips Lip Scrub and for those of you wanting something less chocolaty and something mintier, then this is the product for you. Mint Julips is also from the B named make-up range which Lush provides and for more information about the B range there is more information in my previous review or you can find it on the Lush website.
Like Sweet Lips, Mint Julips Sugar Scrub is designed to keep lips that are smooth, conditioned and dry skin free. Whenever the weather changes so rapidly your skin can look dry and tired and sometimes you feel washed out and use a treatment or lotion to combat this, so why not your lips? When your lips are dry and chapped it can be quite painful to remove the dry skin and it can be quite difficult and before I spotted these two products I used to rely on using an old toothbrush to remove such skin from my lips, not that it was very easy to do or as successful as using something especially designed like this.
Mint Julips sugar Scrub comes packaged in a small round glass tub with a black lid which screws on and off the pot in a very easy motion. Just like Sweet Lips, this product also depicts a picture on the top of the lid of a pair of seductive looking lips and through the pot you can see a slightly off-green looking cream which because this is a minty flavoured product the colour resembles that.
Again weighing 15g and retailing for £4.50 Mint Julips is a fantastic product, it does everything that I had anticipated it would do and makes your lips feel fantastically smooth. Once the lid has been removed, inside the tub the cream I described as slightly off-green is caster sugar which gives the rough texture needed to act as the exfoliator which removes all of the dead skins calls from your lips. Other ingredients include Jojoba Oil can be used on all skin types but is especially used as a moisturising ingredient for dry, flaky skin. Also within this product is peppermint oil which denotes the main smell from this lip scrub, the second you remove the lid you are hit with the peppermint aroma which smells amazing and peppermint is used because it helps to cool and soothe the skin particularly if it is slightly inflamed or irritated and in a product of this kind which is used essentially to remove dead skin cells which are raw and can be painful, so having something soothing to put on your lips is lovely and it also helps to reduce skin redness, where inflammation is present. Then as with Sweet lips we have chocolate extract which is used to give the lip scrub some flavour and then finally Vanilla absolute which again is used for its fragrance which is quite sweet and is said to promote feelings of well-being and calmness. Unlike other Lush products this one doesn't come with a long list of other ingredients to look into.
When it comes to using this Lip Scrub, it is exactly the same as I mentioned in my previous review, but got the benefit of those people who haven't read it yet. One of the first things you need to do is to remove any traces of products such as lip gloss, lip balm or lipstick which you might have applied and this is to ensure your lips are as bare as they can possibly be and as clean as they can be as well. Then I would suggest cleaning your lips using water and a relevant facial cloth before using this lip scrub, just to ensure your lips are clean.
This lip scrub is quite thick in consistency and because it is to be used on your lips you don't actually need to be using too much at a time. Like with most lip balms you apply this directly onto your lips, but instead of running your finger along your lips to get that smooth look, you will need to rub your lips in small circles to remove the dead skin cells and any other impurities from your lips and once you have worked your way across your lips, using some slightly damp cotton wool gently remove the left over product from your lips and then using your finger check your lips to make sure you haven't missed anything, if you have simply copy the actions you have just done. Then what you will notice when you have done this and if you have wiped any excess lip scrub from your lips, you should actually see what effect this product has had on your lips because you will see traces of what has been removed. Also once you have finished using this product you will feel a quite tingly feeling once the peppermint oil takes a hold on your lips and it is also quite nice to taste.
Once I had finished scrubbing my lips my first initial reaction was to see how smooth my lips felt, so I ran my tongue along them. When my lips become dry it is always tends to be in the same place and that is right in the middle of my top and bottom lip and once I had used this product my lips felt soft and smooth all the way along. I have since continued to use this cream once a week as I go between both this one and Sweet lips and I carry both pots around with me in my bag all the time because the pots are quite petite, they add no extra weight to my bag.
Overall I am very impressed with Mint Julips Lips as a lip scrub, it was easy to use, it smelled lovely, anything which smells slightly chocolaty will get my vote but this has a lovely smell and feel to it which is an added bonus and price wise I don't actually think it is expensive because it lasts a very long time, my pot is only a third used and I have had it now for almost 6 months and I do use it regularly. So for a cheap in-expensive product to keep your lips smooth, soft and kissable, I would recommend this one.
