Advantages: Smells great, Leaves skin fresh and clean, Gentle yet still lightly exfoliating
Disadvantages: None
I know it?s not usual for men to use toners but after researching the subject online, I came to the conclusion that a toner in theory would be could for the skin as it would help refine and close the pores on the face after cleansing thus helping to alleviate problems such as blackheads which I tend to suffer from. The first thing I have to comment on is the smell. This product, I suppose to be expected form a company such as Molton Brown, smells absolutely brilliant. It?s fresh, fruity, not floral at all and not in any way sickly or heavy. The smell is an excellent pick me up in the morning and is totally unisex so I don?t feel uncomfortable about using it at all and I doubt if any man would. The toner is alcohol free and so won?t overly dry out the skin. I used a cheap toner containing alcohol in the past from my local supermarket and boy did it sting! I was also left with a dry patch on my face for around a fortnight. Molton Brown?s toner on the other hand is gentle and doesn?t sting at all. Instead you feel a slight tingling, giving a really fresh clean feeling. The product contains various fruit and plant extracts to give a light exfoliating effect. In a similar way to AHAs, fruit enzymes help remove dead skin cells by dissolving the ?glue? that sticks them together. All sounds very scary but believe me this is a very gentle toner and although it exfoliates in this sense, I doubt it should replace your regular exfoliator. The toner helps remove any debris left on the skin after cleansing and any trace of the cleansing product you use. This helps to really give a feeling of clean and freshness. In fact I find it quite surprising at the amount of dirt and particles present on the cotton wool pads after toning on my supposed clean face that I have just washed. After about 2 weeks use, I see a definite change in my skin. It does indeed look a lot fresher and cleaner. Blackheads appear a lot less obvious due
to the fact that the pores are not as open. This product on its own will not cure blackheads but it will help diminish them and combined with a good cleansing routine, should help clear them up with time. Molton Brown seem to have had an overhaul in their products and their toner is now called Skinbalance Toning Lotion. I believe that this is the same formula only packaged differently but I may be wrong. Anyway this review is totally based on their Gentle Exfoliating Toner.
