Advantages: The sachet looks nice!
Disadvantages: Eye watering
I love these little sachet facemasks, I always buy them when I fancy a little pick me up or one of those rare occasions when I can actually relax in the bath without world war 3 breaking out amongst my monsters (which isn't often!) I usually do have a Lush mask on hand but due to being one legged for a couple of weeks that had run out and the other half bless him refuses to walk past Lush let alone go in! So he did agree on his shopping trip to pick me up one of these, to my surprise he not only bought me the right brand but he bought me one that I hadn't tried! So did he get full brownie points?
PACKAGING
The only thing that puts me off these masks, I am not thick or anything but I always seem to get in a right mess with this packaging, for those of you who have never seen these it is basically a 20ml plastic sachet that has a tear strip on the side of the top. I manage the tear strip but then trying to get it all out is a nightmare! Once you start squeezing it out your hands get slippery and then I end up in a right mess but that could just be me!
All these sachets come in different colours for different ones in the range; this one is mainly black with white outlines. They all also have a picture of a poor women with leaves covering her eyes and some flowers, the instructions and directions are in 2 languages English and I think French (sorry have forgotten all my school French!).
PRODUCT STATEMENT
Deeply cleansing, deeply soothing. Naturally and gently revive and cleanse your tired skin, whilst relaxing mind, body and soul with natural and calming essential oils.
USING
So I have my peace and quiet (kids are off to my sisters!) and I can finally put 2 feet in the bath! So I run a nice bubble bath get a good book and lock the door (the other can wait if he needs the loo!)
So I first have to get the sachet open which for once was surprisingly easy this time, the tear strip actually worked, the first scent you get is lavender which to be honest I really don't like that much but it wasn't to overpowering. The colour of the mask is a lilac colour and is very easy to apply it is not to thick but also not very runny, the instructions state to cleanse your face first with just warm water. Now the tricky bit getting it all out of the sachet, which as usual I got in a mess with but hey this is my time, so I will just clean up later!
It was very easy to apply but as soon as I put it on I noticed my eyes started to water, now before you ask no I didn't get any in my eyes! I leave a nice bit around my eyes clear, I decided to persevere and thought it was just the scent making my eyes water and it would wear off. So into my nice relaxing bath and to read my book the instructions state to leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes, so I get 15 minutes to read the problem was I couldn't read because my eyes were still watering and by now stinging! This didn't wear off and I managed to last about 5 minutes before I had to take it off because the watering just got worse, it didn't die down and I couldn't even see my book let alone read!
Taking it off was very easy and quick (the fastest I have taken one off!) it hadn't hardened and I can't tell you if it ever would of once the mask was off the eye watering stopped. The instructions do tell you to take it off with warm water and then pat dry your face but I only read that after due to not being able to read the instructions because of the eye watering thing!
I must say my skin did feel very soft and looked clear even around my nose where the dreaded blackheads can lurk. Apart from the watering eyes I had no other reaction, no red blotches or over dry skin but that may only be because it was only on for 5 minutes!
INGREDIENTS
Aqua (Purified Water), Kaolin, Glycerin, Alcohol Denat., Clyderyl stearate SE, Sodium citrate, Glucose, Sodium thiocyanate, Potassium iodide, Polysorbate 20, Citric acid, Jasminum officinale (Jasmine) oil, Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) oil, Cinnamonum zeylanicum (Cinnamon) bark oil, Eugenia caryophyllus (Clove) leaf oil, Commiphora myrrha (Myrrh) oil, Citrus aurantium dulcis (Sweet Orange) oil, Pogostemom cablin (Patchouli) oil, Anthemis nobilis (Roman Chamomile) flower oil, Pelargonium graveolens (Geramium) flower oil, Lactoperoxidase, Glucose oxidase, Cl 60730 (Acid Violet 43), Cl 14700 (Red 4), Lomonene, Linalool
If you read the sachet properly then it does have a bit there about sensitivity and do recommend you do a skin test first on your upper arm but to be honest I don't think that would of helped with the watering eyes! They also tell you the mask is for external use (well dah!) Also because it has natural oils people can have a allergic reaction, so I would recommend the skin test. I have never had a reaction to any natural oils before and used to make my own masks with them in (before the kids when I actually had time and money!) so I don't know why this reacted the way it did.
PRICE AND RANGE
At most chemists and supermarkets they are around 99p for each sachet,
Montagne Jeunesse Face Masque, Red Hot Earth Sauna 15ml
Montagne Jeunesse Mud Pack, Dead Sea 20ml
Montagne Jeunesse Face Masque, Cucumber, Peel Off 10ml
Would I buy this again?
In a word NO! Peace and quiet in my house is a rarity and using this mask ruined the one time I got, I only wasted 99p but I still feel let down because all the others I have tried have been good. I told the other half it was ok because bless him he did try! As soon as I can drive I am off to Lush for a treat and you know its going to cost more than 99p!

- 08/02/08 Well-done review, by the look of it threre are a lot of strong oils in this mask, with lavender and cinnamon being notorious eye offenders! |
