Advantages: Leaves skin feeling smooth & cleansed, relaxing and sweet smelling, good value

Disadvantages: None, except if you were hoping for flawless skin after 1 cleansing mask

I was told recently that I'm too stressed and that I need to 'pamper' and 'indulge' myself. How do you do that? I had a vision of me painting my nails, up to my eyeballs in body moisturiser, a cleansing mask welded to my face and cucumber on my eyes (plus a g&t in one hand!). I opted for just a face pack and went for a yummy sounding fudge one.

I couldn't find much background information on Montagne Jeunesse, although they seem to be a very popular producer of face masks. I trust that they're quality products not only because I've used them and have never found them to be anything but nourishing, but also because they wouldn't have such a consumer ratings if they weren't up to scratch. The company prides itself on using natural ingredients which is good to know because so many skin care products seem to be filled with chemicals that sound as though they should come with hazard warnings. They're conscious of environmental issues too and attempt to make as much packing as possible recyclable. The products therefore seem to be quality and this earns them popularity as a respectable company that gives you what they claim without testing it on animals. They also won the Prima Beauty Awards this year for best value, so they must be doing something right!

The Fudge Sauna Mask comes in a small sachet and is available in most beauty stores and many supermarkets too, like Tesco. At the moment (6.12.08) Superdrug have a 3 for 2 on the whole range so there's plenty of other varieties to choose from. The fudge variety claims to be self heating and cleansing thanks to the rich Mediterranean clay. By gently warming your skin after you've applied it, the theory is that it opens your pores and cleans out the dirt to leave your skin "so clean it glows!".

Applying is simply a case of tearing the top of the sachet, squeezing it out, and gently smoothing it over your face and neckline. Try not to get it too close to your eyes and make sure to keep your hair well back. It's smooth but very thick so I found it got quite messy trying to get it all out of the packet and ended up with half of it all over my hands and the sink. Once it's on, leave for 12-15 minutes and relax. It does gradually warm and although I have fairly sensitive skin I didn't find it irritating at all. I wouldn't necessarily say it was a 'sauna' but then again I think that's a good thing because it's likely that if it heats up it'll only be uncomfortable feel like it's burning your skin. Unlike some masks that go hard and tend to chip off when you come to remove it, this seem to stay quite moist so it's a little trickier to get off. Wash with lukewarm water but don't scrub at your face to get it off as this may just irritate your skin. Once I managed to get it all off, my face did feel refreshed, smooth and clean. It wasn't red or irritated, though I did put some moisturiser on afterwards. It has a lovely smell and the picture on the front of fudge does make it very tempting!

Overall I would recommend this as a sweet smelling treat for your skin, especially when they're on offer. It did make my skin feel cleaner, soothed and refreshed, although I couldn't see much noticeable difference. Perhap with more frequent use you would get better visible results, but I'm giving these 5 stars because as far as face masks go, it's been the best I've tried so far. Worth a purchase :o)

Summary: Definitely recommended, especially if you're tempted by fudge!
