Neutrogena Lip Balm SPF 20.....
I have always suffered with dry lips and I have tried most lip balms that are on the market but still yet to find one that I am 100% happy with.
This Neutrogena lip balm is not one I have seen on sale in Boots before but when I picked this up for £2.50 pence it was the last one on the shelf which made me believe it must be popular.
It's 4.8 grams in weight and the size of the balm is pretty standard. The cost however was a little more than I thought the product would have been but I thought if it worked then it would be worth it.
The lip balm stick itself is used just like a lipstick and pops up when you twist the bottom of the tube. The colour of the balm is a creamy off white colour that glistens and appears to be quite greasy. As soon as you take the lid off the stick you can smell the wonderful aroma that this balm has. It smells to me like a vanilla chocolate type smell but someone else may beg to differ.
The fact that the lip balm is SPF 20 is not really a factor that interests me I have been using it in the winter so I shouldn't think many UV rays are affecting my lips but I may be wrong.
On using the lip balm I can tell that that my lips are instantly relieved if they are red and sore because any greasy substance will usually relieve them. The smell was even more noticeable when the balm was applied to me lips and I must say that the smell is one I like very much. The taste of the balm of my lips is one that tastes similar to the smell so this for me is rather enjoyable as well.
Unfortunately that is really as far as it goes, it smells nice, it tastes nice and is an instant reliever. However for the help of dry lips this balm really makes no difference. Once I apply the lip balm it is absorbed by my lips so quickly I am usually applying another layer within a few minutes. This I thought was because my lips needed the moisture but I have since thought that this is more to do with the fact that the balm doesn't have any staying power.
It does relive my lips if they are sore but it makes no impression on the appearance or feel of my lips. When trying to find a good lip balm I will try and get one that improves the lips and gets rid of the dryness rather than just keeping it at bay, such as this one does.
Overall I feel that this lip balm is not for me. I think for the price I paid I should have got a balm that worked for the long term rather than the short term. It does smell nice but I just wished it worked as well as it smelt because I may have used it again. I won't however be buying this again and would say that a 2 star rating is generous for this product.
I won't recommend it for use with sore lips but I guess it may suit someone who already has lips that are in good condition and is just in need of a quick fix of moisture.
I hope this has been of some help/interest to you.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
Summary: not a good all round balm

- 22/03/09 VG review here. I think the cost of lipsalves are ridiculous! For the last couple of months I've been using a fair range of different products and the prices have been particularly eye widening. |
