Advantages: Reduces burning
Disadvantages: None
Once a shave is completed, the next step normally (after stemming the flow of any blood) is to put on aftershave (this is quite often followed by men screaming and dancing around the bathroom as if possessed).
The problem is that nearly all aftershaves contain a large amount of alcohol and/or other chemicals that help to remind men that freshly scraped skin is tender.
For years men have suffered this little known pain, maybe not in total silence, but they have held their chins up high, none the less.
Nivea for men after shave sensitive balm, changes the need for this, it is a milky liquid with a consistency that is slightly thinner than single cream. It is also very importantly alcohol free.
For those that understand such things, it also contains Camomile and is Vitamin enriched.
For me the best way I have found to use this is as follows;
Firstly I dry my skin thoroughly after having completed my shave. This is very important
Then apply a small amount into my hand (roughly a blob about the size of a pea, although this is a liquid, I cannot think of a better way to describe the amount of Balm I use).
On occasions I have used smaller quantities of balm and found that I needed a little more.
Also on occasions I have used too much, this makes it very difficult for my skin to absorb, so this is something I try to avoid, as this results in my skin feeling greasy and taking on an artificial sheen.
I then rub my hands together, to spread the balm evenly over both of my hands.
Then I bring my hands up to my face and gently rub over the shaved skin. The first time I used this I was surprised that I did not get the expected stinging sensation (after shave normally causes this), instead I just felt it calming my freshly shaved skin.
The only downside I have found is it leaves my hands feeling slightly greasy, that is easily cured with a quick hand wash using soap and water.
After applying Nivea Balm I found my skin felt softer, it felt as if I had used a face crème.
Nivea for men after shave sensitive balm has a very faint aroma; it reminds me of the old traditional Nivea crème in a blue tin.
Because the scent is not overpowering it means, I can still wear any aftershave of my choosing, without the two different scents competing.
I tend to apply Nivea for men after shave sensitive balm, and then I will wait for about half an hour before splashing on my chosen aftershave. By doing it this way I can still have the aftershave of my choice and without the burning effect that I would usually get with aftershave.
This has now become part of my bathroom armoury (not so I can claim more of the bathroom shelf) as I find avoiding burning sensations to be a major plus for me. However I do not know if it has any lasting softening effects on my face, but if it does then that will have to be another bonus.
This is not a hint, but if I receive this for either a Christmas present or a birthday present, then I will be a happy chap.
Summary: no burn and only light scent
