For any man that needs to shave on a regular basis, this is an essential item to have in your store cupboard. Normally I will shave between once and twice a week, so protecting the skin afterwards and retaining mositure within the skin is very important.

When shaving I often begin to feel the stinging pain and redness after finishing my shave that can last for a few hours. When I first began shaving, it was hard to get used to the stinging sensations that follow with shaving, and I think my skin is quite sensitive. After initially covering my face in the cream, there is a really strong stinging pain for a minute or two. However, it does help to calm and sooth the skin and within 5 minutes of putting the cream on you can really notice the difference.

The nivea lotion inside the bottle has a very masculine and nice scent to it. I have the energy version for normal sin in a 100ml bottle, and so far it has lasted me at least 2 months of shaving on a once or twice a week basis. Based on that, for £4.32 a bottle at Sainsbury's, that is both reasonable value and good quality.

The lotion within the bottle is quite runny, so you do have to be careful not to get it over clothes when applying it. Without applying it though, my face does feel itchy and irritated after shaving, so although there is quite a strong stinging pain when applying it, the effects are worth it. Another thing that I have found with other brands is that they can feel greasy, giving your confidence and feel of the face quite sticky. I have never found that this is the case with the Nivea products, they have always been good to me.

Overall, I am a big fan of the Nivea aftershave balms for men as they do work better than any other brand I have tried. It is important though to try different varieties, or pick the one that you think is most suited to your skin, to see which one has the best effect. Shaving should not need to be a painful experience, and this product really does go a long way in preventing the negatives of after shaving.
