Advantages: It works, it is easy to carry, it's not too expensive

Disadvantages: None as far as I am concerned

I hate my lips being dry; it's as simple as that!

I have a problem with this all year round. In the summer the wind and sun dries them out and in the winter the cold weather does the job. When my lips are dry I make matters worse by constantly licking my lips and then wiping them dry.

Consequently I have different lip balms in drawers around the house and more in my handbags. I have ones in little pots, ones in little tubes and others are the lipstick style ones.

One of my favourite brands is Nivea and for the summer I use their Nivea Lip Care Sun version, which currently costs about £3. To be fair I do usually wait until they are on special offer, which they often are, and buy three for the price of two. You know me - I always have my eye open for a bargain!

This lip balm is another of the ones which comes fixed to a piece of cardboard by means of clear plastic so not only is the empty tube recycleable all the packaging is too, so that's a good start as far as I am concerned.

The tube itself is about the same size and shape as a lipstick and contains 4.8g of lip balm. It is white with a bright yellow cover with the Nivea Lip Care logo in bright blue on the front and the address of the manufacturers in Germany on the back together with the web site address of www.nivea.com

You just apply the balm to your lips in exactly the same way as you would apply lipstick and you need to use the same sort of amount as you would with lipstick. It even feels the same as lipstick on your lips when you apply it.

There is almost no taste to this lip balm which is an advantage to me because, if the balm tastes nice, I keep licking my lips meaning that I have to keep reapplying!

When I use this product I find that my lips feel instantly hydrated, smooth and comfortable. My lips also have a light sheen to them when I use this, but the most important thing for me is that it also has an SPF (sun protection factor) of 25. Since I am fair skinned I am likely to burn in the sun so this is ideal to give me some protection against the sun's rays, especially if I stand on the sea front all day on Sunday selling souvenirs from our lifeboat stall!

The information from Nivea states that 'Nivea Lip Care has been specially formulated Vitamin E & UV Filters to help protect your lips from the effects of the sun and prevent moisture loss'. Apparently the lips have no natural protection against the sun.

Vitamin E is one of the most effective anti-oxidants to help protect against sun-induced free radicals, so now you know exactly what it is doing for you.

I did also say that it makes my lips feel moisturised and comfortable. This is because it contains Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil which are both natural moisturisers.

It is also free from preservatives and dermatologically approved.

So when the sun comes out so does my little yellow tube of protection, which I then carry everywhere with me and I reapply it whenever my lips feel dry and I have never had burnt lips yet!

This review may get posted on Ciao in the fullness of time.

Summary: Keeps my lips happy!
