Advantages: Easy to apply, water resistant product at sensible price

Disadvantages: Like all sun screens, need to reapply frequently

Like most new mums, I am a bit paranoid when it comes to protecting my little one. With the baking hot weather we had back in June (though difficult to remember back that far now as the rain is lashing down outside) I was very concerned about my baby getting sun burnt. My husband has very fair skin, and I have a feeling our little one has inherited his complexion.

Having a Factor 50 therefore was absolutely crucial as far as I was concerned, but the first product I tried (Boots Soltan factor 50) was so gloopy that it didn't absorb into the skin at all - just sat on the top of it so my poor little babe looked like he had been whitewashed! What I liked about this product was that it does really absorb well into the skin, so it is easy to apply an even coating.

I also like the fact that the product is fragrance free and is water resistant, so I could let the little one splash about in the paddling pool without worrying. I do keep reapplying frequently (probably much more than necessary) but just for extra protection.

Normally this product retails at about £10, but I purchased mine on offer in Tesco's for £5 which for peace of mind is well worth it.

Of course we all know that the best protection from sunburn is keeping the little ones in the shade, but this just isn't practical all the time. So for some protection when shade isn't an option, this product really does seem to work - no burnt cheeks for my little boy!
