Advantages: Easily absorbed, non greasy, my fussy man will use it
Disadvantages: More expensive than other creams
So who would of ever thought that people would be suffering from heatstroke during Wimbledon? It's great that we are experiencing so much lovely hot weather, but it is a bit unsettling as it's so unusual! Don't worry, I hear it's going to rain during Glastonbury, otherwise it just wouldn't be the same!
It's very easy to get carried away with trying to get a natural tan in Britain when we see so little of the sun. I for one am not an advocate of sun beds as they can do so much damage to your skin and girls who wear fake tan just look totally ridiculous as they could give the Tango man a run for his money in an orangeness contest.
But I do like to get a bit of a natural tan, but I'm sensible about it and I do slap on the sun cream, even when I'm in the UK. My cream of choice is the Nivea Sun Light Feeling, as it lives up to its claims of having a light texture, is instantly absorbed and it is non-greasy. This product is actually called a Sun Lotion and this means the consistency of it is different to a cream. It is runnier and that is a good thing, as it is much easier to spread over your skin and it absorbs really quickly. I don't feel all sticky after I've put it on and my skin feels lovely and soft.
No one likes to feel smothered in sun cream, particularly my fiancé. He's now 30 (gasp!) and I think he should take better care of his skin and put moisturiser on to prevent wrinkles (I see no shame in men looking after themselves!), but he hates the greasy feeling and refuses. However, he does burn easily, but he is so reluctant to wear any protection from the sun that I have to force it upon him! I do worry about him (like his Mother!) because he shaves his head, so he has a lot more skin exposed to the sun than the rest of us. So I'm relieved that he is a lot more receptive to using the Light Feeling lotion as it doesn't feel greasy like other sun creams.
It smells just like any other sun cream, which immediately reminds you of great summer holidays abroad! It is water resistant, so you should reapply after swimming and drying yourself off. The UVA and UVB protection system is compliant with EU Guidelines, as you would expect from a brand like Nivea. Another good thing is it provides immediate protection, as usually you have to apply sun cream about 20 minutes prior to sun exposure.
The factor 30 bottle I bought actually says on the back that it is 30-50 high protection, for skin that is non-acclimatised to the sun. I'm lucky that I don't burn so easily, but I bought this high factor with my fiancé in mind. It is one of the more expensive sun creams on the market with prices between £10.99 to £13.49, but I think it is worth the money to protect your health!
A 200ml bottle currently costs:
- Boots £13.49
- Superdrug £11.97 Buy One Get One Free
- Sainsburys £10.99 Any 2 For 1
- Amazon.co.uk £10.17
This is definitely a product that's worth the extra money and it even won a Grazia Beauty Award in 2008, if that kind of thing sways you as a consumer!
Summary: Does what it says on the bottle.
