Advantages: Instantly refreshes & hydrates
Disadvantages: moisturised feel does not last long, price .
After taking shelter in Boots the chemist last week as the rain poured down outside I decided to have a look at the face creams as my current one is almost finished and I always like to see if there is a bargain or two! Now I was surprised at the lack of offers but as the security guard was looking at me rather strangely (I had walked up and down the same aisle about 12 times!) I felt rather inclined to make a purchase. So in my impulse moment I picked up the Nivea Aqua sensations day cream.
I admit it stood out in its bright blue and silver box and as Nivea is a well know name I thought I couldn't go wrong. Also the name sounded rather interesting. 'sensation day cream' hmmmm was I in for a tingly treat?
*NIVEA Aqua sensation day Cream*
So this cream claims to -
* Be a light, cooling gel-cream
* Invigorate the skin and your senses
* To be quickly absorbed into the skin
* To have an immediate wake-up effect, eliminating signs of tiredness
* leave the complexion looking fresh and radiant
* provide 24 hour hydration
Sounds like a dream if it works. I especially liked the idea of having an immediate wake up effect as anything to help me wake up in the morning is welcome! I had high hopes for this impulse buy.
* What Was It Like To Use? *
Firstly the cream itself is rather thick light blue/white cream. It smoothes on to the skin very easily and immediately makes the skin feel softer. I am pleased to say it instantly refreshes as well, almost like splashing your face with water or having a light breeze drifting over the skin. It was quite pleasant, nothing too much so you felt like you were having an allergic reaction but definitely some form of refreshing sensation. Great to help wake you up in the morning.
The cream once applied did feel rather wet but surprisingly soaked into the skin within seconds. However it did leave my skin slightly sticky although smooth and it took a good few minutes before ALL traces of the cream had disappeared.
In my opinion it did instantly hydrate my skin however after 30 minutes or so (on the occasional day I don't wear make up) and especially after coming out of the bath or shower I found my skin felt dry again. It didn't hydrate my skin as much as previous face creams and that was a little disappointing as I felt I had to reapply. Which obviously wouldn't be good if I had put make up on!
Disappointingly it didn't make my face glow or beam with radiance, once the cream had sunk it that was that. A bit of a sunken ship really. I think it boasts more then it achieves which is a shame.
The scent of the sensation cream is very fresh and light, slight hint of cucumber and rose. But the scent is quite strong compared to others and does stay on the skin. Whether your ok with that is your preference, I personally don't mind and was happy with the fresh smell.
* Price & Packaging *
The actual tub it comes in is really rather pleasing to the eye. Quite a heavy duty, very smooth light blue tub with a white plastic screw on lid. But it gives the impression of getting a lot more for your money then what you actually get. Coming in at nearly £5.00 for a 50ml tub is a bit of daylight robbery. I wouldn't spend this much money on this again, no matter how many dodgy looks I get from the security guards!
* Conclusion *
In my opinion this cream is best for people who want a refreshing light cream for general use and for normal skin. It does not hydrate for long and would defiantly not be beneficial to those with dry skin.
For the price I would advise you to look around as this doesn't live up to expectations. Yes it does look pretty on my bathroom shelve but what matters most is how pretty it makes my face look and it does nothing that a bog standard cream and some ice cold water wouldn't do.
Thanks for Reading.
Summary: Refreshing but average day cream.
