Advantages: Controls shine, great value, small cute pot
Disadvantages: Not so great at moisturising
I've always had trouble finding any sort of cleanser, moisturiser or even a simple wash for my face as I have very sensitive skin. I had slightly bad skin when I was a teenager and it wasn't until I stopped using facial products that I realised it was mainly due to what I was putting on my skin. When I went travelling last year I took no make up or cleansing products with me and my skin was completely spot and blemish free. However, when I came back and began using facial products again, my skin flared up. Since then I've tried quite a few different brands and products but with no luck - they all seem to have the same effect of making my skin worse so I eventually stopped bothering and would just wash my face with water.
But, unfortunately, I also have combination skin and lately it's been drier than usual so I thought I'd try out a different moisturiser for a few days to see if it had any effect.
The one I chose was Nivea Visage Oil Free Moisturising Fluid. I've already used and liked a lot of Nivea's products and they are good value too which always helps! I was attracted to this one from the statement 'oil free' as my nan has always advised me to look for this to help combat my shiny skin. This seemed like the best and most affordable product for me on the shelf so I picked it up hoping that it would do wonders.
It comes in a small and cute little white plastic 100ml pot with a pale blue twisty lid which comes in a paper box. The pot is the perfect size as it can easily fit in any make up case or bag if you want to carry it around or to take on holiday.
The cream is suitable for normal and combination skin and is said to hydrate and regulate shine for a fresh skin feeling. It has a light and oil free texture which is fast absorbing - when first put on the face it does look very greasy but after only a couple of minutes there is no shine or grease left at all and make up can be put straight on top. It is a smooth and liquidy white fluid containing Witch Hazel and Allantoin which provides moisture and hydration for the dry areas of skin and Mattispheres which regulate production of the oily zones so that the skin is fresh and shine free. Reading the back of the pot I did think to myself is this actually going to work because usually I find it to be a load of garbage, but this actually works the way it says it does. I have noticed that my skin is a lot less shiny - usually by midday my face often feels very greasy and I need to top up my powder a few times throughout the day, but since using this I haven't had that greasy feel or look to my skin and I don't find myself needing to top up the powder hardly at all. I'll only top it up if I'm going out later on in the evening but otherwise I only now put any powder on in the morning. Unfortunately, I can't say that it's as good at controlling the dryness as it is at controlling the shine. It does smooth the surface of any dry patches of skin to make it feel a lot softer and fresh, but this doesn't last for very long and I do find myself feeling slightly dry areas on my face later on in the day.
The best thing about this cream though is that it hasn't had any negative effects on my skin. I haven't come out in any spots or blemishes and my skin is just as soft and clean as it was beforehand but now much better with much less shine.
It costs £3.72 and is currently in a 3 for 2 offer in Boots on selected Nivea facial skincare products so I'm definitely going to head down to Boots to pick up a few more of these and see what else the brand has on offer. This is by far the best moisturising cream that I have come across (and I've used a few). It does exactly what it says on the pot and is perfect for those with combination or shiny skin.
Summary: The best moisturiser I've found for controlling shine
