Advantages: A nice cheap moisturiser

Disadvantages: none yet

I am always on the look out for a good face moisturising cream, I absolutely loved Difinity by Olay but really can't justify spending that much on a face cream especially in these credit crunch days! I have tried a few others and have always gone for ones that are supposed to be good for stopping the signs of aging. I have now decided that actually I am not going to worry about my laughter lines or crows feet I am just going to use a moisturiser that feels good and most importantly is cheap! I found this one in good old Wilkinson's and decided to give it a go, so did it come up to scratch or did it send me running back to part with more money for a more expensive one?

HISTORY

Nivea was born in 1911and combined the works of 3 German men, Oskar Troplowitz, Isaac Lifschutz and Paul Unna. They invented the first long lasting skin cream and named it "Nivea" which in latin is "Nivus" meaning snow white.

In the 1930's the brand was given a facelift and they also came out with their first suncream along with a 2 weekly weather calendar! More products also came out in this era including shaving cream & shampoo. The war years were very bad for the nivea brand even though they tried to distance themselves from the Nazi image of Germany at the time the brand was snubbed by most countries that were fighting Germany at the time.

By the 1950's the nivea brand was back on the up and enjoying the new interest in women's fashion. The 60's saw a revolution in skincare and a tan was a must and nivea was still keeping up with the trends with good advertising and marketing. Even with more and more competition nivea still stand by their core product and though the packaging changes the high quality brand stays the same.

PRODUCT STATEMENT

Nivea Visage rich moisturising cream provides dry and sensitive skin with all the moisturising and smoothing elements it needs to maintain its natural moisture balance. It intensively nourishes the skin, provides it with moisture, helps protect it and leaves a soft and smooth skin feeling.

PACKAGING

The cream comes in a nice 50ml tube, which also comes in a box, I would gladly describe the box but me being me I threw the box away! From memory it was a plain white box with the Nivea logo on the front. The tube is your basic bog standard stands up on the lid tube. The lid is your basic screw top and the cream comes out nicely from the hole, the tube has the Nivea Visage logo in the famous navy colour, the writing on the front is in a burgundy colour and it states that this cream contains almond and calendula oil and also UV filters.

USING

The one thing I actually do like about Nivea products is that distinctive Nivea smell, it always reminds me of summer for some weird reason! This product does have that signature smell but it is really subtle and you have to sniff really hard to notice it.

The cream itself is pure white in colour and feels quite light to touch it doesn't feel at all greasy or oily as I have found some of the cheaper face moisturisers to be. The really good thing about this product is you really don't need to use a lot at a time one small squeeze seems to get enough out to cover the whole face (well mine anyway!) It covers the face very easy and you don't have to rub very hard or long to get it absorb. The directions state to gently massage into the skin using circular strokes but to be honest I have to get up so bloody early in the morning I just tend to rub it in and be done with it!

After applying my face really does feel soft and smooth all day and I have no dry patches, it also doesn't leave my skin feeling oily or greasy but really nice and smooth. It is also gentle enough to use around the eye area and does help reduce those shopping bags under my eyes.

I have been using this for a while now and although it doesn't make any claims to get rid of wrinkles my skin does feel really healthy and more importantly soft and smooth.
I should also add that this product has not caused any allergic reaction to my skin and I can be a little sensitive flower!

PRICE

As I said I picked this up at Wilkinson's and it was on special offer at £3.49 I have looked around and seen it for around £4.50- £5.50.

WOULD I USE IT AGAIN?

Yes I would! It's quite cheap and basically does what it says on the tin! (or tube) It leaves my skin feeling soft and healthy and personally I feel that's half the battle with a moisturiser. I can certainly say I won't be running back to the shops for a more expensive one and will stick with this one (until the credit crunch is over!)
