Advantages: Texture, smell, the way it leaves my skin feeling hydrated

Disadvantages: None

I ran out of my normal L'oreal moisturiser a few weeks ago and as I had a few No7 £5 vouchers from a promotion Boots were offering if you spent over a certain amount, I thought I might give their range a go.

I had used their products before but hadn't been impressed however, that had been several years ago.

I looked at the range they offer. I have sensitive skin with an oily T-Zone so I have to be careful with what I choose. Their range is good but not extensive which I do think is a good thing because then there is less likelihood of you becoming confused and spoilt for choice. By keeping their range limited they cater to most needs without the customer giving up because they can't decide.

My requirements were for a moisturiser to be either fragrance free or in a nice light fragrance, for it to be smooth textured and for it to be nice to apply and not leave my skin feeling greasy.

I narrowed it down to 2 options - the Hydration or the Essential Moisture. I finally chose the Essential Moisture Night Cream.

Packaging

The cream is in a small plastic tub. There is no box and I wondered if this was safe so I unscrewed the lid to be reassured by the cardboard tab that was securely sealed at the edges to prevent tampering.

The tub itself is white but has an iridescent pink shade to it that you only see as you move the tub in the light.

The tub contains 50 ml of the cream and is priced at £8.25.

The Claim

The blurb on the tub claims that this cream will nourish and replenish your skin while you sleep. It replenishes lost moisture to leave your skin soft and silky.

It states that this cream is for Dry to Normal skin - I have combination skin however I usually need a moisturiser for dry skin because my dry bits are really dry and a combination skin moisturiser does not cut it.

The cream itself

Containing Vitamins E & F and also Elderflower I found this cream to be a delight.

I couldn't wait to get home and try it that night. I cleanse, tone, exfoliated first and then opened the tub.

The fragrance I was greeted with was subtle, like a creamy slightly perfumed smell which was very pleasing to the senses. I did have a slight concern over this as the blurb on the tub states that this is Fragrance Free.

Anyway I dipped my middle finger into the tub and it came out with a nice 10 pence piece sized dollop of the cream. Smoothing it between my fingers I was surprised at how thick and creamy it felt yet not greasy. It's hard to describe the actual texture but imagine thick double cream when it's been whisked up and put into a cream cake and then add an extra weightiness and thickness to it and you're there.

I began to smooth it onto my face and was surprised by how cooling it felt. The 10 pence piece sized dollop was enough to cover my entire face and down my neck.

Afterwards my skin felt refreshed and I know it sounds stupid but I could almost feel my skin soaking up the moisture. When I looked in the mirror my skin had a glow to it that I hadn't achieved before, even with my Decleor or Clarins skincare. There was a little surplus cream on my hands after so I rubbed over my hands. They felt wonderful afterwards and I could see the dry wrinkles disappearing as I rubbed it in further. Pleased I went to bed.

Results

Upon waking in the morning I looked in the mirror and was pleased to see I still had the glow (albeit a bit bleary eyed) that I'd had the night before. I used my normal Nivea cream in the morning and applied my tinted moisturiser. The foundation went on better than it had the day before which surprised me and at the time I didn't connect this to the new night cream.

I have now been using this night cream for the last 5 weeks and it has been so good I have subsequently bought 3 more tubs (all with £5 off vouchers) and have also purchased the Day Cream which is wonderful too.

The day and night cream combination means I no longer have to use so much tinted moisturiser each day so I am saving on not buying that so often. The creams appear to compliment each other perfectly with the day cream being slightly less heavy in texture.

The result I have is clear, soft, less oily and glowing skin on my face and neck. People have actually commented on how good my skin looks and I had pretty good skin before in terms of not getting spots etc. I have not had an allergic reaction to the cream either which is something that I find hard to avoid with some other skincare products such as Clinique.

At £8.25 for the 50 ml tub I think this is excellent value and even more so in the fact that I got mine for £3.25 with my voucher and then got my advantage points on the top. I will definitely be buying this again.

You can buy this in store from the No 7 counter or it is available online at www.boots.co.uk.

Incidentally, the day cream comes in the same 50 ml tub priced at £7.70.

Summary: Excellent value product and well worth a try.
