Advantages: non greasy, leaves skin soft

Disadvantages: not as effective for very dry skin, despite it's claims

***Olay Origins***

Olay originated in South Africa as Oil of Olay, having been designed by the Chemist Graham Wulff in 1949. The name "Oil of Olay" is a reference to the word "lanolin", which is a key ingredient.

Olay 'beauty fluid' is basically a moisturiser, which is used to soften and replenish skin.

***Why I use Olay***

I began using Olay moisturiser because my grandmother used it daily. When I was about 12 years old and becoming more interested in my appearance, I used to take great interest in what was in my poor grandmother's make up bag! She used to use Oil of Olay twice a day, morning and night and I grew up with her telling me that moisturising your skin was essential.

For the record, my grandmother is now 91 years old, and people often think she is in her 60's or 70's. She has always looked young for her age. Perhaps this is in the genes, however the texture of her skin is to this day very smooth for her age and fresh looking. She still has wrinkles which you would expect with growing older, however, she certainy has very few 'fine lines' or 'crows feet' on her face. My grandmother is convinced this is down to her moisturising daily, and more specifically, Oil of Olay.

I am 28 now and have been using Oil of Olay reguarly for many years. I'm probably too young to have many wrinkles yet - so only time will tell if this moisturiser has worked! But my skin certainly feels smoother and softer after application.

***Application***

Olay comes in a pink and compact bottle with a screw top, which is simple and easily transportable when travelling. It also comes in diferent sized bottles so you can pick and choose.

Oil of Olay beauty fluid claims to be suitable for all skin types, which is quite an ambitious statement. I have 'combination' skin - which basically means I have greasy areas and dry areas - annoyingly for me! Olay claims to be good for dry skin, greasy skin and combination skin.

For best results I recommend that you apply this moisturiser not long after you have come out of the bath or shower, or have washed your face with warm water. This will ensure that the pores on your skin are opened, and the moisturiser will sink into the skin and be more effective. However, this is not essential.

It is not recomended that you apply this fluid to dirty skin or on top of make up, as this will clog up your pores and potentially cause spots. Make sure your skin is clean and clear first. Use a skin toner first if you can.

When applying, squeeze a small 10p piece amount into your hand, and use your finger tips to massage it into your skin. If you have dry skin, massage more of the fluid into the driest areas. My dry areas tend to be around my forehead and nose. However, I put much less fluid onto my chin area, as this part of my skin is naturally greasier, and in my opinion too much moisturiser in this area can cause breakouts on my skin.

I apply this moisturiser on my face as soon as I come out of the shower and dry off. Once it has dried, which does not take more than 5 minutes, I then apply my make up. Some people mix the moisturiser with their foundation, but I don't bother with this - I just put my foundation on the top.

***Result***

Oil of Olay makes my skin soft and it is fair to say that it really is 'non greasy.' This is what I like about the moisturiser. However, sometimes I feel that this moisturiser is not as effective as thicker moisturisers on my dry patches of skin. I tend to combine this moisturiser with exfoliation products once a week to ensure my skin is smooth.

***On balance***

An essential, non greasy product which is great for the skin. Not so great for extremely dry skin however.

Summary: A beauty essential when combined with other products
