Advantages: leaves skin smooth and elastic, taste and fragrance free

Disadvantages: a bit expensive

Now that I’m in my 30s I like to look after my skin. I’ve always looked young for my age (or so those who like to flatter me say) but I’m well aware that I’m not getting any younger. In a desperate bid to preserve my youthful appearance I’m happy to admit that I have become an avid Olay fan.

But my love of Olay products is not without good reason - they work for me and they are more pleasant to use than any many of their competitors. Pardon the plug, but this is not the first Olay product I’ve reviewed and it won’t be the last because I have plenty to say about them.

So, in this review I’m going to start with Olay’s Night Cream. The product bumf on the Olay web-site claims that it moisturises and nourishes the skin during the night. Well, I’m not a dermatologist and so I can’t comment on how well nourished my skin is. In fact, I’m never entirely sure what is meant by “skin nourishment”. However, I can say that since I’ve been using this product I have lovely soft skin. Previously it was tending to be a bit dry around my nose and mouth in the mornings if I’d not used a cream the night before. The Olay web site also promises that the product will help to generate fresher and younger looking skin in the morning. Well, I’m not convinced that my skin looks any younger, but it certainly has an elasticity about it that I’m perfectly satisfied with.

I’ve tried various night creams in the past – many of which produce equally supple and soft skin but night creams do tend to have their drawbacks. In particular, many of them tend to be a bit on the greasy side and don’t absorb easily. Well, Olay’s night cream is definitely not nearly as greasy as many of its competitors. It’s quite a heavy cream and not absorbed as quickly as many of the day-care products, but that is what you come to expect from a cream that works
its magic over a period of several hours. It’s fragrance free too. That doesn’t bother me but it might be a consideration for other potential users. One thing that I do like about this product is that it is also taste free. No, I’ve not been eating the stuff out of the jar but I know from experience that a face smothered in night cream has the potential to act as a real passion killer. It’s not nice when a romantic moment is ruined by your partner asking what’s on your face because it tastes horrible.

I’m not expert on beauty therapy so I’m not going to go into detail about the best way to apply the stuff. I just slap it on after my nightly bath and it seems to do the trick.

The packaging is pretty standard but stylish. The cream comes in a small glass jar, which from memory I would estimate contains about 50 ml. I’m not 100% sure of the price. I guess if you bought it from a High Street shop it would probably be in the region of £7 to £8, which makes it quite expensive. However I buy mine from a discount toiletries retailer for £3.50 which makes it a very reasonable buy. A pot typically lasts me about two and a half months when used every day and so it’s good value if you can find it at a discounted price. I guess even at full price it’s not too bad a buy if you don’t mind spending a bit to look after your skin.
