I am a fan of Olay products so when I spotted Olay eye gel in my local Boots it did not take much to persuade me that it would be a worthwhile purchase. So was this a good decision or one of the many I would come to regret?
What do you get for your money?
*****************************
I paid £6.99 in my local Boots for this product. The 15ml of eye gel comes packaged in a very stylish black and gold box. Open the extensive packaging and inside you will find a small pot made of clear plastic with a black screw top lid. The packaging promises that if you use the gel for any length of time you will experience great benefits such as a reduction in fine lines, less puffiness, a reduction in dark circles under your eyes and help with skin regeneration. Sounds good doesn’t it? Having read the promise on the box I was hooked and could hardly wait to get my purchase home and put it to the test.
On opening the lid I took a sniff and thought the scent reminded me slightly of Vick! The clear gel contains cucumber and which hazel extracts both of which are known to contain soothing properties. It is easy to apply, dip your finger into the pot then gently massage a small amount of the gel around your eye area. You really do need to be gentle with the skin around the delicate eye area and use light strokes to avoid pulling the skin. The gel felt slightly sticky but when applied it felt cool and made my skin tingle slightly .My skin definitely felt tighter at first although this effect soon wore off. The gel did not irritate my skin and felt very pleasant. I continued to apply the gel twice a day, in the morning at last thing at night as recommended by the manufacturer, after cleansing my skin.
The verdict
***********
I continued to use the gel for 6 months and found it pleasant to use. The manufacturer promises great benefits from using this gel but sadly I have not noticed any real difference in either my dark circles or fine lines. It is pleasant to apply and does seem to have short-term benefits so was not a total waste of money!
On the minus side I think this is a very expensive product that only gives very short-term benefits. The packaging is excessive with a plastic inner sleeve as well as a box, so not very environmentally friendly.
So would I buy this again? I’m sorry to say I wouldn’t. I think drinking more water early nights and less alcohol would probably serve me better! However should you want to give this a try then it is widely available from larger supermarkets, Boots and most department stores.

- 21/03/05 Nice to hear a voice of sense in this category! I never bvelievd creams and things actually worked, but I still liked them for the sheer fun of it. Now I don't wear make up much and don't care about my looks and have no money for stuff anyway; I just don't bother apart from normal cream (moisturiser).
