Advantages: Smooth, soft firm supple skin after only a few uses
Disadvantages: Feels quite thick and greasy when it is first applied
At 23, I never ever thought I would be writing a review about what would be categorised as an "anti aging" type product. In fact I am still slightly embarrassed to admitting to using this type of product never mind writing a review about it.
A few months ago my mother decided to politely ask me what brand of moisturiser I used. After some not so subtle hints she declared that I should start using anti aging products as "its never too young to protect against wrinkles" and I will "thank her for this advice when I'm in my 40's!"
So on one of my lunch time trips to Boots, I begrudgingly picked up a pot of Oil of Olay Anti Wrinkle Night Cream, pretending it was a birthday present for my mother as I gave it to the check out girl.
- - My face prior to using Olay - -
We will put this into perspective; at 23 I do not have many wrinkles on my face. In fact I do not have any visible wrinkles on my face or neck to others however if I was to look really closely I might have a faint lines under both eyes that are starting to appear as I mature. I am also really conscious of (very) faint frown lines on my forehead. I do get teased by my friends because I apparently look like a teenager; their mocking made worse when I am the only person in the group that gets asked for ID when we walk into pubs!
**Price and Packaging**
This is priced at £9.99 in Boots and is also priced at £9.99 in Superdrug. I got this product on a multibuy offer so in fact got 2 Olay products for £10. I do feel that £9.99 is still good value for the product and would have bought the product even if it was not on offer.
The moisturiser comes in a small circular pot. About 5cm high and 5cm in diameter. The pot is made from clear plastic (so you can see how much moisturiser you have left) with a black plastic lid that screws off. The directions for use are on the pot. As is the Olay branding.
There is an outer box to the packaging. This is a square purple box with Olay branding in gold font.
The claims on the box are that the product contains a mixture of anti aging vitamins which leave skin rejuvenated. This includes Vitamin E, B3, Pro vitamin B and antioxidants.
** Application**
The fragrance of the moisturiser is quite strong and can be smelt immediately when you unscrew the lid. It is a creamy floral type scent very much like rose petals. I do not find this unpleasant but if you do not like floral scents then you may find this off putting.
The moisturiser is white and creamy. I apply about a 50p size amount to my face and neck and rub in, using circular motions. The moisturiser feels a very thick when in your hand but when applied to the face it goes on quite thick but not as thick as some brands of moisturiser (e.g. Nivea) . The product feels quite wet and sticky initially. For around 10 minutes I find this really unpleasant as my face feels really greasy so I always wait before going to bed and putting my face on my fresh white pillow.
I was concerned that this would make my skin overly greasy the following morning. I have combination skin and my T - zone (in particular my chin) gets greasy where the rest of my face is dry. However this was not the case and after cleansing my skin the next morning my skin just felt smooth and soft (and not shiny).
***** My Verdict****
Will I continue to use this again once the pot runs out? Yes. I have seen a difference in the feel and look of my skin. After about 4 days of use my skin looked a lot healthier and brighter. I didn't expect miracles but I now would be happy to go out without make up on, and be content that my skin looks smooth and clear; where previously it was dull in places. After four weeks of use my skin is noticeably smoother and I actually feel that it is a lot firmer especially on my cheekbones. I also feel the (very) faint lines on my forehead are less noticeable to me as my skin looks more plump. Mr Lools even commented that my skin looked "really smooth" and was surprised when I told him I had no make up on. My mum swears by this product despite trying much more expensive (as in £75.00 per pot products) she always goes back to this. If you are wanting a miracle cure for lines and wrinkles to disappear completely.... Opt for BOTOX!! If you are wanting firmer, more supple and soft looking skin try Oil of Olay Anti- Wrinkle Night Cream. The 5/5 rating is for my own skin and the improvement it has made but if I was marking this on behalf of someone older ( i.e. the mother) I would rate 4/5 as it's less effective on more established lines. But it's never too young to start according to Mummy Lools!
Summary: Soft smooth supple firm skin

- 20/05/09 Mum was right of course. You have to start the anti-aging thing before the aging thing starts, if you know what I mean. |
