Advantages: ENRICHING, NON-PREFUMED MOISTURISER THAT REALLY FEELS LIKE IT'S 'FEEDING' MY SKIN!

Disadvantages: NO SPF CONTAINED WITHIN...TUT TUT OLAY, THAT'S NOT GOOD...

Far, far too rapidly my 45th birthday is approaching, thereby encouraging me to pay homage to my most favourite of daytime face moisturisers 'Olay Double Action Day Cream - Sensitive' - as I believe it is the key to looking at least 20 years younger than I actually am! *Ahem*

Being a fan of all things Olay that I have ever tested, I really do love this emulsifying perfume and colour-free thick creamy white lotion, above all other brands of moisturisers I have ever tried out there in the face care products marketplace...

Okay, I may not look in my mid 20's in reality any more (sob!), but I am constantly complimented on looking quite a bit younger than my true birth years.
Granted the flattery is usually proffered by the more inebriated male/females I have encountered on my nocturnal pub/club travels - but hey when you get to my age beggars can't be choosers, folks, on whom you get sweet talked by!

I started off in the early 1980's using this enriching moisturiser when it came under the old-named banner of 'Oil of Ulay'; but despite slightly changing its name to Olay - the basic ingredients of this popular cream have as far as I know, remained completely unchanged.

There are certain toiletries we will always favour and this (while ever it is still sold), will always be mine in ensuring my delicate facial skin receives plenty of nourishment, without exacerbating my skin's dermatological tendency to react badly to cheap or perfumed creams.

'Dermatologically tested. Specially formulated for sensitive skin. pH neutral.', are all quoted qualities I look for in a moisturiser - as well as the promise of it being 'non-greasy' on application...well no-one wants to feel like they are slicking a lick of grease onto their face, do they?!

Priced at a remarkably reasonable £4.88 in Boots recently, I got a mixture of day and night-time pots on a well timed 3 for 2 offer, as I was running low on both box types.

Presented in a delicate pink square cardboard outer, my 50ml container states 'sensitive' within a tiny green label on the bottom right hand side.
The enclosed little opaque plastic tub has a black screw on lid, with the famous Olay logo in capitals running in multiple words around the side of it.
Promising to 'protect' as it is 'Specially formulated to care for your sensitive skin', the manufacturers 'Procter & Gamble' advice is to liberally apply to the face and neck every morning - after cleansing the aforementioned areas first.

The box's blurb also states that this rich, caring cream leaves the users face 'soft and smooth' after 'replenishing' the skin's natural moisture capacity, as well as protecting the surface by then 'locking' said moisture in.

As far as the results of this product goes, Olay pledges to the consumer that they will notice the difference in the fact they will have 'more youthful looking skin'...but are all these promises a bit far fetched, or based on tried and tested truth?

Well after scanning a huge list of chemical ingredients that I am none the wiser about if I'm honest, what I can honestly say is it really makes my skin feels suppler after applying an even coating on the recommended areas.
I am a soap user by choice; however soap by its very nature can be a rather dehydrating substance. For me it is a personal preference as my face feels cleaner after washing, but my skin instantly tightened on drying, so I have to quickly re-moisturise as otherwise the tautened feeling can be quite unpleasant.

This is where the Olay Double Action Day cream really comes into its own - as almost relief is applied via the thick, luxuriant moisturiser.

The youthful element of the product's absorption I imagine, is that the skin does not dehydrate - and therefore look more creased as it 'dries' out ( I was going to say 'shrivelled', but that's far too harsh a word to use!).

Although I would definitely agree with the non-greasy claim, I would also have to point out that it takes a few minutes for the white moisturiser to absorb fully into the epidermis - whereas the new generation 'Olay Regenerist Serum' is almost instantaneously drank into the parched pores!

Personally though, I like the feeling of a more substantial in texture emulsifier sat atop my skin for that minute or two...it makes me feel that I am actually fully 'feeding' my skin properly!

Despite trying several more expensive versions of my firm favourite I always return to my old faithful, as it does the job for me.

When I was younger, the advice regarding facial care was nowhere near as informative as it is nowadays. But luckily/unluckily for me I have always suffered with dry skin, so have had to moisturise it just to feel comfortable throughout the day.
This has paid dividends for my looks; along with the fact I have never been either a natural sun or sun bed worshipper (my complexion is an unbecoming florescent milk-bottle white with garish ginger-tinged freckles), so that gorgeously glowing huge ball of gas in the sky and I will never get along for this very reason!

Which leads me quite adroitly onto why I have to very reluctantly reduce my shiny star rating for this double action 'moisturising and protecting' day cream by '1' - as this particular salve shamefully does not contain any sort of SPF ingredients, to protect the delicate face and neck areas in the summertime sun.

This is my only single - but crucial criticism - of an otherwise perfect product for me.

I am surprised Procter & Gamble has not updated their cream to allow for the fact we are all now mostly more sensibly 'sun-conscious' with protective screening...

Thus, it has to be a very enriched and supple 4 stars for my chosen review product of the day; I just wish it could have been 5 as I feel I owe you a lot in regards to my looks, Olay!

Small, but Somewhat in 'vain' Query?

Could we just split the difference and pretend I appear at least a good ten years younger than I actually am?

Phew, thanks! :o) x x
