Advantages: Good on Sensitive Skin, Did Soften Skin
Disadvantages: Greasy, Greasy, Greasy Chops.
I initially tried Olay Double Action Cream when my previous, most favourite moisturizer in the whole wide world, got discontinued. I think that there is nothing worse than finding a product that you love, that works well and that actually suits your skin - only for it to disappear without warning and with no opportunity to stock up. I thought Olay would be a suitable alternative as their range of products is well known for being 100% perfume and colour free and therefore would be suitable for my unpredictable and sensitive skin.
The bods at Olay claim that this moisturizer will leave skin smoother, fresh and soft. It is claimed to protect your skin from within against moisture loss, by penetrating the skin to lock in natural moisture. My moisturizer came in a 50ml tub and cost me approx £5.99 - though I have often seen it on offer since then in various supermarkets and chemists.
Application
The 50ml pot has a screw top lid - which is very useful as you can basically scoop out the amount you want to use. I prefer this type of packaging to a squeezy tube as often too much can come out of those and you end up using it on any part of your body that you can - just to get rid of it all! The white cream inside the pot is quite thick - so you don't have to worry about accidental spillages making a mess either. The instructions on the pot state that you have to apply the cream to your face and neck.
On application, I noticed that the moisturizer had no particular smell to it (probably because it is unperfumed!) The cream felt quite thick as it was put on your face and even though I didn't put a great deal on - it took ages to soak in and left me feeling like I had quite a greasy layer across my face. The length of time that it took for the cream to soak in also meant that you couldn't apply any make up for quite a while after - so this isn't especially practical for in a morning when you are rushing for work!
Results
After repeated use I have found that this moisturizer does leave my skin feeling soft and not at all dry. It also hasn't affected my sensitive skin or irritated my eyes in any way - which normally rules out most other moisturizers. However the greasy feeling that I feel I have across my face is really annoying and not at all comfortable. I also don't think that this is a particularly great moisturizer to add make up on top of. I am finding that my foundation is wearing off very quickly (probably slipping off in all the grease!)
Conclusion
I am a bit disappointed with this product as it did leave my skin nice and soft and not at all dry. However I simply can't cope with the greasy feeling. I have tried putting on less cream and the feeling is just the same. This is a real shame as I only ever needed to put a small amount of the face cream on - and the little pot looks like it would last for months and months and was a very reasonable price - so it would have been an absolute bargain! Such a shame about all the greasy greasiness! It's really not a good look to have such shiny chops!
Summary: Great Moisturizer if you have a while to let it all soak in!
