Advantages: Leaves skin clear, glowing, soft and renewed, good price
Disadvantages: Heating effect disappointing, difficult to get out of tube
Since I first used a thermal face mask I have been a big fan of thermal beauty products and I just love that feeling as they heat up on your face, opening your pores. Olay's Regenerist Thermal Skin Polisher was a chance purchase for me: I had a £5 off voucher from Boots for any Olay product and so when I saw this one at £7.34 it seemed well worth a try. It claims to (with regular use) achieve the look of a mini peel, leaving your complexion flawless and renewed.
It's packaged in a 125ml black flip top squeezy tube. It's actually quite difficult to squeeze any of the product out as the lotion itself is very thick so does require a bit of elbow grease and isn't easy to dispense exactly the amount you want. I can also imagine that this will be particularly hard to get out of the tube once you begin to reach the end.
The cream is a lilac colour and very thick and has a slight sweet scent to it, almost fruity. To use, you simply wet your face with tepid water and then apply the cream, avoiding the eye area, massaging in circles around your face and it heats up on contact with the water. As you massage it you can feel the tiny grains of exfoliant in it, but they really are small and well distributed throughout the product, this is one of the gentlest exfoliators I've ever used and very kind on my skin.
The heating element was a bit of a disappointment to me as it is very short lived. Olay recommend adding more water to reactivate the heat, but despite some experimentation with this, I cannot seem to get the heat lasting for more than a few seconds, which is fine to open up the pores, but I would enjoy a longer lasting sensation!!
However, the effect this has had on my skin is wonderful. I am the typical combination skin sufferer - oily t-zone and occasional dry patches - and this works really well to mattify the oily areas, reduce the size of my pores, and even out my complexion, ridding me of any pesky reddish patches without leaving the skin feeling in the slightest bit tight. As you would expect from products in the Regenerist range, it leaves my skin regenerated, almost glowing and feeling refreshed and smooth. It really does achieve the effect of a mini peel, but what surprised me was that I do find this is gentle enough to use as a daily cleanser as the exfoliating grains are so gentle. I am currently using this in the morning and a different cleanser at night (I think twice a day might be overkill) and my skin looks wonderful.
This is one mid range product that really matches up to premium brands like Clinique or Origins, and I am thoroughly impressed with its performance. While I've docked a star for the disappointing heat element and the difficulty in extracting from the tube, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again as the price is fantastic for the quality of the product. The fact that I got it for £2.34 is even more of a bonus!
Summary: A mini peel effect skin polisher
